PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Albert Fish (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Mark Hughes (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). I can't wait for this one - let's get the fighter introductions out of the way and get this one started!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Albert Fish!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Mark Hughes!
The judges for this bout are Daniel Franklin, Chris Downing and Cecil Peabody.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Hughes drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.
Fish really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.
Hughes throws a big elbow that misses.

Fish working for a triangle but Hughes defends it easily.

Hughes avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
Hughes with a flurry of punches that miss.
Fish preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.
Hughes really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Fish. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Hughes working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.
Hughes trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.

Fish has his foot on Hughes's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Hughes works his way back into a safe position though.
Fish keeping moving, preventing Hughes from controlling successfully.

Fish escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Hughes gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Fish throwing his legs up looking for a triangle.
Hughes stands up over Fish, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Hughes sitting in guard here, content to control.
Hughes advances to half guard.

Fish is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Hughes pulls his head out easily.

Fish actively working from the bottom here.

Hughes is pressing down on Fish's thigh, looking to free his foot. Fish is holding on for now.

Hughes working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Fish definitely looks more muscular than last time we saw him fight.
Hughes passes the guard and advances to mount!
Hughes is in the full mount, landing strikes.

This has been an exciting period of action!

Hughes has been taking part in the yoga sessions down at NEXUS GYM. Presumably he's going to look for a slick submission... Or maybe he's looking to avoid one.
Hughes looking to control but Fish is working nicely, looking to advance position himself.
Fish is wriggling around trying to escape.

Hughes wants to control the pace but Fish is squirming around nicely.

Still in half guard, Hughes seems content to control.
Hughes wants to take a breather but Fish is having none of it.

Fish looking for submissions from an awkward position here.

Hughes performing his best blanket impression for a moment.
Hughes is keen to just control but Fish is a slippery customer.
Hughes might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Fish haven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.

The ref stands the fighters back up, due to lack of action by Mark Hughes.
Hughes throws a right hand that misses

and Fish holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch.
Fish is working on a leg, looking for a takedown but Hughes is defending well.

Fish pulls guard.
Fish trying to punch from his back but it's not doing any damage.

Hughes got a little sloppy there for a moment and Fish has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Hughes has managed to get both his arms back between Fish's legs - danger averted.

Hughes postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head.

The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Fish is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
Hughes stays in close to Fish's body and controls the position.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
Hughes tries to free his leg and advance position but Fish is retaining full guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Mark Hughes dominated that round.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!


Hughes throws a looping overhand right but Fish ducks down to avoid it.

Hughes feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
Hughes slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.

Fish is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Hughes defends well.
Hughes wants to control from the top but Fish keeps moving.

Fish working for submissions but it's allowed Hughes to get to half guard.
Hughes lands strikes from half guard.
Hughes is trying to control. Fish wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.

Fish looking to work for a kimura from the bottom.

Fish looking for submissions off his back.
The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Hughes connects with a nice short shot to Fish's temple.

Fish is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Hughes pulls his head out easily.
Hughes looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Fish with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.

Hughes is keeping good posture, landing some ground and pound.


Fish is rocked!
Hughes tries to pass to full mount but Fish defends it.
Oh Fish is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!!

Hughes is trying to control the action in half guard but Fish is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.

Hughes working over Fish with some ground and pound. Fish looks like he wants out of this position, which is understandable.
Hughes lands a massive shot from half guard that has rocked Fish! More strikes land and this one is all over! Hughes jumps to his feet and is applauded loudly by the crowd!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:38 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Mark Hughes!
A very excited looking Mark Hughes made sure he remembered to thank all the fans both in the arena and on the internet. He said all the coolest people spend all day on MMA websites, which got a big reaction.
