PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Kip Slizer (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Chris Bravo (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Chooooooooon! I think Slizer might be my favorite fighter, now he's come out to The Reckless and The Brave. Chris Bravo told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Kip Slizer!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 6 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Chris Bravo!
The judges for this bout are Frank Antenori, and Timothy Bukovac.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Bravo connects with a leg kick. He turned his hip over nicely there.
Slizer pivots, looking for a leg kick but Bravo is out of range and Slizer settles back down.

Slizer decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.
Bravo holds on for dear life, maintaining half guard for now.
Slizer is pressing down on Bravo's thigh, looking to free his foot. Bravo is holding on for now.
Slizer is trying to control. Bravo wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of Kip Slizer.

Bravo darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.
Bravo trying to mount his opponent but Slizer defends it.

Slizer trying to hold on to Bravo's head to control him but Bravo postures up.

Bravo is working for a submission of some sort.
The fighters are battling for position here. Slizer manages to regain full guard. Nice work.

Slizer seems to have improved his submission grappling technique since last time we saw him. Let's see if he can pull off a submission.

The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.

The ref stands the fighters back up, due to lack of action by Chris Bravo.
Slizer thuds his right hand into Bravo's forehead from close range. That could be painful for both fighters.
Slizer throws a low kick, looking for Bravo's leg but Bravo calmly moves out of range.
Bravo shoots in but doesn't get the takedown
and Slizer counters with a low kick, right behind Bravo 's knee.

Slizer is looking to slow Bravo down with leg kicks.
Bravo is trying hard to land a takedown here. Slizer sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.
Bravo fails with the takedown.
Kip Slizer has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Chris Bravo.
Bravo just misses with a punch to the body.
Chris Bravo seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Slizer throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Slizer tries to bum rush Bravo with a series of wild strikes but Bravo uses good footwork to avoid the assault.

Slizer takes a swing at Bravo's ribcage but misses.

so Bravo counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.

Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Slizer manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!
Slizer tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.
Slizer has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Bravo tries to reverse the position but Slizer maintains control.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


Slizer shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Bravo but Bravo pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Bravo throws a body kick that sends a sickening thudding noise reverberating around the arena.
Bravo has his takedown stuffed
and Slizer counters with a low kick, right behind Bravo 's knee.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Bravo.
Slizer scores with a big left there. The judges will like that one.
Bravo shoots for a double leg takedown but Slizer sprawls well. He's pushed Bravo's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Kip Slizer has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Chris Bravo.
Bravo shoots and misses

and Slizer decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Bravo's guard.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Slizer passes Bravo's right leg, so he's now in half guard.
Slizer throwing shots but Bravo is blocking nicely.

Slizer drives through and clinches with Bravo against the cage.
Bravo fails to pull the fight into his guard.

Bravo has picked Slizer up - he's going for a ride! Bravo dumps his opponent to the mat with a thud and settles into half guard.
Bravo seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Slizer does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
Slizer manages to get to full guard.
Bravo looking to pass the guard.
Bravo wants to stand but Slizer has a closed guard, so he can't escape.

Slizer has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall.

Bravo wants to control from the top but Slizer keeps moving.
We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.
Bravo is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.

The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. Chris Bravo wasn't active enough on the ground.
Slizer misses with a jab, cross combination.
Slizer tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Bravo swivels and escapes.

We've been informed that Bravo has been working hard on his conditioning in the buildup to the fight.

Bravo wants to stand and escape but instead Slizer has hit a sweep and he's now on top in guard.

Slizer feints a jab promting Bravo to slip. Slizer then demonstrates his capabilities by jabbing again. Bravo slips again and ducks right into an uppercut.

Slizer shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Slizer showed some decent athleticism there.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. Ladies and gentlemen, this is the final round!


Bravo will need to close the distance a bit before he attacks - that leg kick was thrown from too far away.

Bravo takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Bravo misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Slizer looks to score with a jab to the body but Bravo is just out of range.
Slizer throws a jab to the body, straight down the pipe. Boom. That sent Bravo stumbling backwards but he manages to regain his composure quickly.

And that's the end of the fight!
Kip Slizer showed his dominance in that final round.
Well Slizer has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
