Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Jason Spezza (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Alex Steel (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Steel has chosen Ain't No Sunshine as his entrance music. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 9 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Jason Spezza!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 11 - 8 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Alex Steel!
The judges for this bout are Robert Douchet, William Peck and Ian Loll.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Spezza throws a leg kick that misses.
Steel looks to throw the jab but Spezza is out of range.
Steel throws a jab when Spezza was well out of range.
Steel looks to land a combination but Spezza avoids it well.
A solid leg kick lands there for Spezza.
Spezza bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes.
Spezza walks into a jab.
Spezza tries to land a leg kick but Steel saw it coming and moves away.
Spezza ducks under a wild hook from Steel.
Steel throws an off balance right hand

and Spezza counters with a nice double leg into guard.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

We've been hearing that Spezza has been drilling a lot of ground and pound in training, so let's see if he get the finish.

Steel wants to control but Spezza is keeping busy.
Steel felt the need to train up his defensive grappling in the buildup to the fight. Presumably he was expecting to be in a difficult position like this, so let's see if he can get out of it.

Spezza is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Steel sees it coming and defends easily.
Steel tries to kick Spezza off but Spezza keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.
Spezza wants to lay and pray for a moment but Steel keeps working.
Spezza is thwarting Steel's attempts to control the position.
Steel is in trouble now - Spezza has advanced to mount!

Spezza is thinking about an arm triangle here, looking to tighten it up before moving to side control. Steel can see it coming though and defends well with a couple of strikes to the head and some good arm positioning.
Both fighters really going for it on the ground here!

Spezza wants to control the pace but Steel is squirming around nicely.

Spezza looks like he's working for a submission but he's not found anything just yet.
Spezza can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Steel is looking to escape.

Spezza jumps to the side looking to secure the arm triangle…. Ooooh, that looks tight… Steel is gargling but he's managed to escape! Nice work there by Steel and Spezza has given up the dominant position trying to land that submission.

Spezza tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.
Steel wants to control but Spezza postures up.

Spezza thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.

Spezza is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Steel has escaped the position, nice work there.
Steel wants to get back to his feet.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Spezza is looking to take a break and control but Steel is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Steel uses good head movement to avoid the hook from Spezza.

and Spezza counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Spezza.

Steel missing with a left hand there. Spezza was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one.
Steel waving his hands out in front of him, looking to distract Spezza.
Spezza connects with a leg kick. He turned his hip over nicely there.
Horrible takedown by Spezza or perhaps it was just good defense by Steel which made him look bad.
Steel tries to bum rush Spezza with a series of wild strikes but Spezza uses good footwork to avoid the assault.

Steel rushes in with a sloppy looking punch
enabling Spezza to counter with a crisp jab.
Steel tests Spezza's chin there with a solid looking shot.
Steel throws a poor cross that misses

so Spezza counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
Spezza trying to control but Steel is working from the bottom.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Steel wants to sweep but no luck.
Spezza stops Steel from standing up.
Spezza wants to control from the top but Steel keeps moving.
Steel is looking to stand up but Spezza isn't so interested in that idea.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Spezza wants to pass the guard but Steel is keeping the position.
The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.
Spezza is fighting to break Steel's control of his arms but Steel is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.

Spezza throws a push kick but Steel slaps the foot to one side.

Steel throws an overhand right that lands on Spezza's shoulder, as Spezza tries to avoid the shot.

Spezza looks for the body kick but Steel saw that one coming.

and Spezza counters with a nice leg kick.
Steel throws the left hand but Spezza avoids the punch easily.

Alex Steel is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Steel pushing out the jab but it's not landing.
Steel throws a right and a left that Spezza avoids nicely.

Spezza shuffles to his left behind two crisp jabs. Steel eats them both and turns towards Spezza to reposition himself and eats a stinging right hand-left hook combo.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Spezza changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Steel tries to avoid it but Spezza manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Steel to the ground. Steel escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.

Well Spezza has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
