Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 20 - 8 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Ricardo Santiago!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 13 - 11 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Will West!
The judges for this bout are Nard Betker, Patrick Alders and Wagner Zegers.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
West throws a two punch combo that lands nicely.
Ricardo Santiago seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Good leg kick by West there. It's the ones that make that thud noise that hurt and that was an almighty thud.

West drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.
Santiago not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Santiago keeping full guard, as West tries to pass.
West trying to control the position from guard on top but Santiago is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
West stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Santiago swivels though and keeps the full guard.
West trying to control but Santiago is working from the bottom.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
West shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Santiago pinned against the cage. Santiago gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.

West moves away from the strike by Santiago.
Santiago throws a head kick that misses.
Santiago tests West's chin there with a solid looking shot.

Santiago gets underhooks to prevent West's takedown attempt.

West is looking to score with knees to the body. Maybe he'll change it up and go body then head. Santiago is defending well for now.

Santiago is not content to let West control the position.

West is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Santiago doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time West.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

West is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Will West dominated that round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


Santiago lands a glancing blow to the side of West's head.
West tries to work over Santiago's front leg with a kick but Santiago checks it.

Santiago takes a shot right to the liver - Bas would have been proud of that punch.

West fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Santiago sprawls well initially but West persists and gets the takedown into half guard.

West is taking a breather. Santiago says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.

West is trying to control the action in half guard but Santiago is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
West wants to control the pace but Santiago is squirming around nicely.
Santiago's corner are shouting for him to stand up but that's bad cornering - how is he meant to stand up when he's mounted? He should be looking to improve his position on the ground before trying to stand back up.

West is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Santiago defends it well.

West is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Santiago is just riding it out for now. West eventually gives up the hold.
Santiago is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Santiago looks like he's trying to stand up.

West is trying to work for a kimura but Santiago is defending well.
West is working hard to pass the guard. He's done it - he's now in full mount! Trouble for Santiago!
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
West seems to be looking to move to his opponent's back but Santiago is holding on tight.
West tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Will West showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. Let's get this one finished - here comes the final round!


West throws a nice inside leg kick.

Santiago throws a head kick that half lands.
Santiago throws out a powerful jab.
A big right from Santiago misses.
West takes a step towards his opponent and connects with a left hand, before circling away.
West moves out of range as Santiago strikes.
West thows a body shot but no joy.
West moving in and out of range nicely, whilst landing the scoring shot.
West shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Santiago sprawls well. Santiago wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. West gets slowly back to his feet.

West looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
We've been told by Santiago's head coaches at A'DAM * GYM * PUBLIC that he's been working on his takedown defense in preparation for this fight.
Santiago fails in his attempt to clinch.

West shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Santiago defends it nicely.
Ricardo Santiago has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Will West.

West throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Santiago tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. West is in Santiago's guard.

West stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Santiago swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.

West dives in for a single leg takedown but Santiago sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage.

Santiago's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
A bone on bone clash there as Santiago blocks the leg kick.
West takes a hook to the side of the head. I wonder if that's got his ears ringing.
West shoots in for a takedown but Santiago shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
A slapping leg kick lands for Santiago.
West takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Santiago throws the kick towards the body but West avoids it.
West misses with a low kick.
Santiago defends well against a solid takedown attempt from West.
Santiago dips to his left and cracks West with an uppercut!

Santiago scores with a big left there. The judges will like that one.
Santiago stumbles momentarily as he takes a strong leg kick from West.
West looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Santiago is fending him off so far but West persists. Nope, Santiago circles away and we're back to standing.
Santiago tries to clinch there but West circles away.
Santiago stooping low to avoid any incoming strikes and then lunges in with an uppercut come cross that lands flush.

West shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard.
Santiago is trying to stand.

West is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.
Santiago pushes West off looking to stand but West dives back in and keeps control.

Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Santiago wants to get back to his feet.
Ricardo Santiago has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Will West has got the better of the ground game so far.
West is keen to just control but Santiago is a slippery customer.
Santiago is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
West stalling away here and it's allowed Santiago to slip out his trapped foot and regain full guard.
Santiago manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. West manages to get himself to full guard.
