PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Justus Sheehan (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jarrod Wyatt (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Sheehan comes to the cage accompanied by Under the Dome. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 28 - 16 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Justus Sheehan!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 21 - 8 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Jarrod Wyatt!
The judges for this bout are Ian Loll, Alec Ball and Dillan Fox.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Sheehan doesn't react quick enough there as he takes a shot to the body.
Sheehan shoots in but no luck this time.
Sheehan shoots for a takedown but Wyatt saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.

Wyatt drives through with a takedown into guard.
It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.
Wyatt engaging in some classic timewasting tactics.
Wyatt throwing strikes from guard but Sheehan blocks nicely.
Wyatt trying to control but Sheehan is working from the bottom.
Wyatt is looking to work some ground and pound but Sheehan has wrist control.
Sheehan is adopting a defensive guard.
Sheehan is in a tricky position. We've heard reports from his gym mates at Hey Steve's Fight Shack that he's been drilling escapes, so let's see if he can get back to his feet.

Sheehan looking for submissions from the bottom but instead Wyatt passes into half guard.

Sheehan tries to get to full guard but Wyatt has control of the leg.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Wyatt wants to take a breather but Sheehan is having none of it.
Wyatt looks more muscular than last time we saw him. He must have been on the weights.
Wyatt stops Sheehan from getting back to his feet.

Sheehan is concentrating on defense, preventing Wyatt from advancing position.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.
Wyatt misses with a body kick.
A chopping leg kick lands by Wyatt.

Sheehan closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Wyatt's guard.
Wyatt keeping moving, preventing Sheehan from controlling successfully.
Wyatt controls Sheehan momentarily but Sheehan frees himself.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

We're going to have a standup here because Justus Sheehan wasn't active enough for the referee's liking.
Sheehan fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Justus Sheehan. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Wyatt misses with a kick to the body.
Sheehan ducks under a wild hook from Wyatt.
Wyatt takes a punch to the jaw and another one to the bread basket.


It looks like Jarrod Wyatt has been cut.
Wyatt fakes a couple of low kicks, before throwing one on the third attempt. It connects and Sheehan has to reset his feet before getting ready to engage.
Wyatt shapes like he's going to throw a leg kick but settles back down.

Sheehan manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Wyatt on his heels. He'll look to pass Wyatt's guard now, I'm sure.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Wyatt wants to sweep here but Sheehan controlling him for the moment.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.

Sheehan wants to control from the top but Wyatt keeps moving.
Wyatt will have to put a bit more behind his punches if he's going to do any damage from this position.
Wyatt is trying to keep Sheehan in close.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.
A head kick from Wyatt lands but Sheehan takes it in his stride.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Well, he's not going to score with shots like that. A lazy body kick attempt from Wyatt.
Wyatt feints with a shoulder and throws a nice leg kick to Sheehan's calf.
Wyatt doesn't succeed with the takedown
and Sheehan counters with a nice jab to the body that keeps Wyatt thinking.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Justus Sheehan will probably get the nod.

Sheehan throws a right hand that Wyatt ducks under and follows up with a left that Wyatt also avoids with ease.
Wyatt tries to clinch up but Sheehan circles away and keeps his distance.
Wyatt swings for the body but Sheehan moves out of range.
Wyatt throws a quick inside leg kick.
Justus Sheehan is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Sheehan blocks a head kick by Wyatt.
Wyatt is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Sheehan.
Sheehan scores with a decent looking hook.
Sheehan throws a right and a left that Wyatt avoids nicely.
Sheehan takes an uppercut right on the jaw but it doesn't phase him.
Wyatt connects nicely with a jab. Noted by the judges no doubt.
Sheehan scores with a nice strike.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Sheehan is moving around nicely and scores here with a single head shot.
Like a baseball bat into the meat of his leg there - nice leg kick by Wyatt.

Sheehan lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.
Sheehan throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Wyatt tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
A lazy left from Wyatt finds it's target.
Wyatt tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Sheehan manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
Wyatt throws a push kick but Sheehan slaps the foot to one side.
Sheehan fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Wyatt manages to avoid it.
Sheehan throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Sheehan scores with a big left there. The judges will like that one.
Wyatt has a takedown stuffed.
Sheehan steps to his left, right into the path of a big body kick from Wyatt. That one must have hurt.

Sheehan shoots in for a takedown and gets it.

The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Sheehan wants to lay and pray for a moment but Wyatt keeps working.
Sheehan tries to stand and escape but Wyatt is controlling the position.
Wyatt is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.

Sheehan is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Wyatt has managed to free his arm - good work.

Sheehan looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.

Sheehan wants to lay and pray for a moment but Wyatt keeps working.
Wyatt has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Sheehan is working away from the top position though.
Wyatt is trying to stand.
Wyatt is trying to control but Sheehan passes into side control!
Sheehan is maintaining the dominant position - no doubt Wyatt will start to get frustrated soon if he's not already.

Wyatt is not content to let Sheehan control the position.
Wyatt trying to remain calm as Sheehan controls from the top position.

Sheehan laying and praying for a moment but Wyatt takes advantage and regains half guard.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Sheehan is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Wyatt is just riding it out for now. Sheehan eventually gives up the hold.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. This is the final round!


Wyatt moves away from the strike by Sheehan.
Wyatt tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Sheehan defends well and Wyatt ends up having to push Sheehan into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch.
Wyatt can't find room to land a body shot as Sheehan controls the action.
Wyatt misses with an elbow strike.
Sheehan blocks the elbow strike.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Wyatt misses with a hook to the ribs.
Wyatt misses with a shot to the kidneys.

Sheehan turns his back and goes for a hip toss. It's a bit messy but it gets the job done and Sheehan manages to end up in side control.
Sheehan wants to lay and pray for a moment but Wyatt keeps working.

Sheehan decides to stand back up.

Wyatt clinches up against the cage.
Sheehan prevents a body shot from Wyatt.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Sheehan is trying to get back to full guard.
Sheehan tries to push off, looking to stand up, but Wyatt manages to move to mount!

Wyatt lands an elbow that was bordering on illegal but the referee lets it go with a warning.

Sheehan tries to hold on but Wyatt pushes him away.

Wyatt is landing with some decent strikes but Sheehan is trying to advance his position so the referee is letting the fight continue.

Justus Sheehan overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Wyatt sends his fist crashing into the mat - the crowd let out a collective ooooooh. Let's hope he's not broken it!

Wyatt is stalling here but it's allowed Sheehan to get half guard.
Sheehan has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Wyatt is working away from the top position though.

I think Sheehan has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
