PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Adam Peri (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Roger Howlingate (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that Roger Howlingate was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Roger Howlingate!
The judges for this bout are Leandro Rodrigues, Felipe Paraventi and Alexandre Firmino.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Peri uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Howlingate.
Howlingate throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Peri wants to clinch.
Peri moves away from the strike by Howlingate.
Peri darts in trying to clinch
and Howlingate counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.
Howlingate keeps his opponent at a distance with a nice jab.
Peri bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes.
Peri tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
Howlingate misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Peri.
Howlingate misses the shot to the body.
Peri is trying hard to land a takedown here. Howlingate sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.

Howlingate breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.

Peri shoots in for a takedown but Howlingate shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.

Howlingate fakes a jab and throws a low kick but Peri checks it well.
Peri uses good head movement to avoid the hook from Howlingate.

Peri tries to close the distance and clinch up against the ropes but Howlingate paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Howlingate tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Peri was well out of range. Poor timing from Howlingate.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Peri tries to score a power double leg takedown but Howlingate sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Peri somewhat.

Howlingate misses with a hook. Peri ducked under it nicely.

Howlingate closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.

Peri tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Howlingate wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.

Howlingate wants to stand but Peri has his arm trapped.
The fighters are tangled up in the ropes here. We might need a restart if the fighters can't break free themselves.

Peri gets one leg under and gets the fight to half guard.
Peri tries to roll over but Howlingate keeps him under control.
Peri is working hard here to advance position.
Peri has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Howlingate is working away from the top position though.
My spies in [STEEL] Lion Elite-Rio inform me that Howlingate has been getting involved in the gym's BJJ sparring sessions. Let's see whether that pays dividends!

Horrible takedown by Peri or perhaps it was just good defense by Howlingate which made him look bad.

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.

Peri is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Howlingate is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.

Roger Howlingate showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

and Howlingate counters with a huge uppercut, hook combination that drops Peri! The ref has seen enough - he's dived in to stop the fight! Brutal strikes by Howlingate!
