PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Kenshi Zuko (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jack Torrance (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Zuko comes into the arena with Wu Tang- Hellz Wind Staff blaring out of the sound system. Torrance comes into a darkened arena with his song building. Shadow on the Sun by Audioslave kicks in, the lights come on and the crowd goes wild! What a showman! Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 25 - 17 - 1, fighting out of Montreal, Kenshi Zuko!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 17 - 13 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Jack Torrance!
The judges for this bout are Yves DeLean, Robert Douchet and William Peck.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Zuko throws a leg kick that misses.
Zuko rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Torrance moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
Zuko misses the shot to the body.
Zuko looks to have improved his striking defense since last time we saw him fight.
Zuko swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Zuko lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.
Zuko lands a straight punch to the body, keeping Torrance at a distance.
A nice leg kick lands there from Torrance.
Zuko misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Torrance.
Zuko avoids the body shot from Torrance.
Torrance uses good head movement to avoid the hook from Zuko.
Torrance looks to land a combination but Zuko avoids it well.
Torrance throws a hook but Zuko avoids it easily.
Zuko fails with a takedown attempt.
Zuko looks to score with a jab to the body but Torrance is just out of range.
Torrance throws a jab to the body, straight down the pipe. Boom. That sent Zuko stumbling backwards but he manages to regain his composure quickly.
Sloppy strikes from Torrance. Those never looked like landing.
Zuko throws a right hand that Torrance ducks under and follows up with a left that Torrance also avoids with ease.
Zuko misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.

Torrance uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Zuko.
Torrance moves in looking to clinch but Zuko pushes him off.
Torrance misses with a left hand

so Zuko counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.
Torrance is adopting a defensive guard.
Zuko works a leg free and moves into half guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Torrance wants to improve his position but Zuko is controlling well.
Torrance told us pre-fight that he has been working on his escapes in training. Let's see if he can call on some of his new skills to get back to his feet.
Zuko wants to lay and pray for a moment but Torrance keeps working.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Zuko is pressing down on Torrance's thigh, looking to free his foot. Torrance is holding on for now.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Zuko drops his hands momentarily and Torrance takes advantage with a crisp shot to the head.

Kenshi Zuko overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Zuko wants to free his trapped foot but Torrance is holding on for dear life with his legs.

Zuko is working hard here to advance position.
Zuko has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Zuko is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen.

Zuko is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Torrance defends it well.

Torrance has managed to escape just enough to sneak back to his feet but Zuko is on him like a limpet, forcing Torrance back against the cage.
Zuko blocks a punch to the side of the head.
Zuko throws an elbow that misses.

Torrance's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Zuko scores to the head and body with a nice combination!
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Torrance pushing out the jab but it's not landing.
Torrance ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face.
Zuko's jab looks to have found its range, popping Torrance under the eye.
Torrance misses with a hook. Zuko ducked under it nicely.

Jack Torrance is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

Zuko lands with an overhand left.
Zuko shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Kenshi Zuko. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Zuko fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Torrance manages to avoid it.
Torrance throws out a token jab with nothing on it.
Torrance displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Zuko throws out the jab.
Good work by Torrance as he checks the leg kick.
Torrance scores with a punch to the gut of his opponent.
Torrance leaves Zuko with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.

Torrance can't keep his opponent in guard - Zuko advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Torrance is trying to stand back up but Zuko is controlling him
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Zuko wants to pass to mount but Torrance is defending the position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Kenshi Zuko dominated that second round.
That's time! Zuko's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. This is the final round!


Zuko moves away from the strike by Torrance.
Zuko throws out a loose jab but Torrance uses good head movement to avoid it.
Torrance misses with an uppercut. Zuko saw that one coming.
A combination from Torrance does no damage.
Torrance ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Zuko moves away.
Zuko misses with a double jab.
Torrance looks to land a right hand but Zuko moved out of range.
Torrance defending well as Zuko loads up on a big left hand.
Torrance throws a leg kick that misses.
Torrance throws a hook to the side of Zuko's head but Zuko sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.
Zuko dodges the punch combination from Torrance.
Zuko changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Torrance tries to avoid it but Zuko manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Torrance to the ground. Torrance escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Torrance throws a nice looking combination but Zuko bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.

Torrance throws a jab but it's blocked by Zuko.

Torrance tries to sprawl but Zuko drives through with a takedown into half guard.
Zuko is looking to take a break and control but Torrance is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Zuko is thwarting Torrance's attempts to control the position.
Zuko is looking to pass Torrance's guard but actually Torrance recovers to full guard.

Torrance wants to control but instead he gets his guard passed and Zuko is now in half guard.
Torrance tries to roll over but Zuko keeps him under control.

Jack Torrance has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Zuko stands and throws Torrance's legs to the side, diving into side control.

Zuko is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Torrance has escaped the position, nice work there.
Kenshi Zuko is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.

Torrance is not content to let Zuko control the position.
Zuko controls the position.
Zuko's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

And that's the end of the fight!
Kenshi Zuko showed his dominance in that final round.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Zuko, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
