The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
West swings wildly with a couple of big hooks
and Pilgrim counters with a low kick, right behind West 's knee.
Pilgrim keeps West at a distance using the push kick.

West gets tackled into the ropes by Pilgrim. Pilgrim maintains the clinch.
Pilgrim managing to block the knees to the body from West.
Pilgrim prevents the takedown attempt.
West throws an elbow that misses.
Pilgrim tries to land a knee to the head but West blocks with his arms.
Pilgrim wants to stall.

Pilgrim gets control of West's arms and successfully pulls guard. Pilgrim will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back.
The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.
Pilgrim manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. West manages to get himself to full guard.

Pilgrim decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on West, up you get!

West tries to clinch but Pilgrim is having none of it.

Pilgrim had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. West defends it easily.
Pilgrim knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for West on the ground.
Pilgrim wants to get back to his feet but West is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
Pilgrim bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in West's guard.

Pilgrim drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Pilgrim jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

The fighters are tangled up in the ropes here. We might need a restart if the fighters can't break free themselves.

Pilgrim seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but West does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

Pilgrim is sneakily working for an arm triangle but West sees it coming and defends easily.

Pilgrim stalling away here and it's allowed West to slip out his trapped foot and regain full guard.

West is working an open guard so Pilgrim takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.

Pilgrim pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Pilgrim shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with West but West pushes him off and we're back to square one.

Pilgrim lands a shoulder strike that jolts his opponent's head backwards.
West tries to stall but Pilgrim uses the opportunity to gain a better position.
Pilgrim lands a right hand that snaps the head of West backwards.
Pilgrim tries to pull guard but West forces him back to his feet, against the ropes.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Billy Pilgrim. That's going to take a lot out of him.
West is looking to break free of the clinch but Pilgrim has double underhooks.

Pilgrim ties up his opponent against the ropes and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Pilgrim no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.

The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring.

Pilgrim throws a couple of shots from the bottom but they don't land.

West drops back, looking for a kneebar! Pilgrim looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Pilgrim looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Pilgrim!

Pilgrim shoots in for a takedown. Oh, that's a huge slam! West is on queer street and Pilgrim is pounding down on him with a barage of strikes. The ref is forced to step in and stop the fight. Great finish!
