Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of
1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Luiz Fabiano!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of
3 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Zach Gates!
The judges for this bout are , Timothy Bukovac and Frank Antenori.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Gates digs a good hook to Fabiano's body.
Fabiano tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Gates defends well and Fabiano ends up having to push Gates into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch.
Gates misses with a shot to the kidneys.
Fabiano jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Gates walks away with a smile on his face. Fabiano gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.
Fabiano fails with the takedown.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Luiz Fabiano. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Gates's corner calls for a 1-2. Gates obliges with the 1 part as he scores the single shot and moves back out of range.
It looks like Luiz Fabiano has been cut.
We can't be sure of the tactics at this early stage but we have heard that Gates has been working on his takedowns a lot in the buildup to the fight and we can only assume he's going to look to take this to the mat.
Gates is throwing a storm of strikes! Right hook, left hook and follows it up with a spinning back fist! Fabiano hits the canvas like a rag doll! And just like that, this one is over!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:27 of round 1, we have a winner by way of KO (Strikes). Zach Gates!
After the fight, Zach Gates was humble in paying tribute to his opponent but made it clear he wants to go on to bigger and better things. It seemed to go down well with the crowd who cheered him loudly.
