PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Neil NaLeans (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and David Charles (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that David Charles was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 22 - 18 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Neil NaLeans!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, David Charles!
The judges for this bout are Frank Dennis, Tiny Johnson and Gwen Towbar.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Charles fakes a head shot and lands one to the body.
NaLeans takes one to the side of the head.
Charles rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but NaLeans moves out of range and avoids them all easily.

NaLeans clinches up with Charles and pushes him back against the cage.
NaLeans goes for a takedown in the clinch but Charles prevents it.
Charles lands with a good tight uppercut to the head.
Charles scores with a nice hook to the head.
An uppercut on the inside fails to land for Charles.

NaLeans is trying to trip Charles. He has hold of a leg but Charles is hopping around, keeping his balance for the moment. NaLeans persists though and gets the takedown into guard.
NaLeans is looking to work some ground and pound but Charles has wrist control.
Charles pulls NaLeans in close to prevent any damage.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
NaLeans wants to pass the guard but Charles is keeping the position.

Charles avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.

NaLeans wants to pass the guard but Charles is keeping the position.
NaLeans throws a big right hand that misses.
NaLeans trying to control the position from guard on top but Charles is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Charles misses the jab.

NaLeans dives in and scores a takedown into Charles's guard.
NaLeans trying to move into half guard but instead Charles has managed to sweep!

Charles got a little sloppy there for a moment and NaLeans has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Charles has managed to get both his arms back between NaLeans's legs - danger averted.

NaLeans trying to keep a closed guard but Charles is proving a slippery customer.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

NaLeans is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Charles is aware though and is defending well.
NaLeans has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

The ref stands the fighters back up. David Charles was stalling too much, according to the referee.
Charles throws a nice looking combination but NaLeans bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.
NaLeans's corner calls for a 1, 2 combination and NaLeans duly obliges.

and NaLeans counters with a straight right hand.
Charles throws a chopping leg kick but NaLeans manages to avoid taking any serious damage.
Charles misses with a looping left.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Charles misses with an uppercut.
NaLeans moves in looking to clinch but Charles pushes him off.
Charles swinging wildly here.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Neil NaLeans dominated that round.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.

and NaLeans counters with a head kick. That will keep Charles thinking before he tries any more sloppy attacks!

Well, he's not going to score with shots like that. A lazy body kick attempt from Charles.
NaLeans slips a jab from Charles.
NaLeans will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.

David Charles seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Charles swats away the attempt to clinch by NaLeans.
Charles keeps the fight on the outside.
Charles wants to slow NaLeans down by chopping away at his legs.
Charles throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
David Charles is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
NaLeans moves away from the strike by Charles.
Charles misses with a series of wild punches.
NaLeans fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
Charles throws a leg kick that is checked
and NaLeans counters with a kick to the head that grazes his opponent. Charles is lucky that one didn't land flush.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

NaLeans is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Charles defends it well.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
NaLeans lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

David Charles showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

NaLeans uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Charles.
Charles cracks NaLeans with an open hand slap.
Charles works over NaLeans's head and body with a nice combination.
Charles looks to land a left hand but NaLeans moved out of range nicely.
NaLeans is looking to take this fight into the clinch.

David Charles has forced the referee to step in and restart the fight on the feet.
Charles lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.
NaLeans fails with a takedown attempt.

Charles throws a combination. NaLeans tries to block but a couple of punches get through.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

NaLeans has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Charles is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.
