PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Jeffson Gracie (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Elvis Bika (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Gracie comes to the cage accompanied by Cliff Richard - Summer Holiday. Bika has chosen My Decision as his entrance music. Both fighters look pumped up here. Let's hope this is a good fight!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 25 - 16 - 1, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Jeffson Gracie!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 29 - 15 - 1, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Elvis Bika!
The judges for this bout are Paulo Santos, Seu Braga and Daniel Cesar.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Gracie is looking to land body kicks.
A solid leg kick lands there for Bika.
Gracie cracks Bika with a good jab.
Gracie uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Bika.
Gracie dives in and grabs Bika's left leg, looking for a takedown. Bika pushes down on Gracie's head and hops out.
Gracie keeping his hands up high there, blocking the jab from Bika.
Gracie has his head snapped back a nice jab. A little nod from Gracie there as he acknowledges the shot.

Bika shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard.
Gracie wants to control the action here but instead Bika manages to pass to full mount!

Gracie tries to reverse the position but Bika maintains control.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Bika with a couple of short strikes.
Bika is trying to control here but Gracie has managed to regain half guard.
Gracie has been talking about how he's improved his wrestling in the run up to the fight so let's see if that's enough to sway the balance.
Nice strikes from Bika there.
Gracie is trying to stand up here but Bika is controlling him well.
Bika not landing any meaningful shots this time.

The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Bika connects with a nice short shot to Gracie's temple.
Bika misses with a head shot. Gracie uses the momentum to regain guard.
Bika chips away with some ground and pound.

Bika slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.
Gracie is sneaking out the side here. He's bucked Bika off and has taken his back!

Gracie is looking to take a break and control but Bika is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

Gracie is looking to advance position but Bika won't allow it.
Bika has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Gracie is working away from the top position though.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Gracie throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.
Gracie is thwarting Bika's attempts to control the position.
Bika moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.
Gracie trying to control the position from guard on top but Bika is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.
Bika trying to keep a closed guard but Gracie is proving a slippery customer.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
Bika jabbing away but nothing is landing.
Bika shakes his hands off, looking to compose himself, but takes a jab to the jaw whilst he does it.

Bika swings for the body but Gracie moves out of range.
Bika feints a jab promting Gracie to slip. Bika then demonstrates his capabilities by jabbing again. Gracie slips again and ducks right into an uppercut.
A big right from Bika misses.
Gracie has a takedown stuffed.
Bika pushing out the jab but it's not landing.
Bika scores with a kick to the midsection.
Gracie throws a series of punches but Bika moves out of range.
Bika stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Bika wants it to stay on the feet.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Jeffson Gracie. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Gracie keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
Gracie shoots in looking for a takedown but Bika manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Gracie's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
Bika tries to score with a low kick but Gracie moves his leg out of the way.
Bika slaps away a takedown attempt from Gracie, before circling back to the center of the mat.
Bika looks to land a left hand but Gracie moved out of range nicely.

Bika throws a shot to the body.
A jab from Gracie misses.
Gracie staying out of range there.
Gracie throws out a token jab with nothing on it.
Bika lands a jab to Gracie's midsection.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Gracie tries for a takedown but Bika sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
Bika motions for Gracie to come forward. Bika throws a leg kick but it misses it's target.
Gracie takes a push kick to the midsection and stumbles backwards.
Bika with a nice cross.
Bika attempts a low kick but it misses it's target.
Bika lands a nice shot to the body.
Gracie tries to clinch up.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
Bika throws a hook to the side of Gracie's head but Gracie sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.
Gracie fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
Bika scores with a sloppy punch to the body. Not much technique there but it did the business.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Elvis Bika dominated that round.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!


Gracie shoots in but Bika avoids the takedown attempt easily.
Gracie looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Bika is fending him off so far but Gracie persists. Nope, Bika circles away and we're back to standing.

Gracie gets a takedown into half guard.
Bika is trying to maintain the position but Gracie is very close to passing his half guard.
Bika keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.
Bika is in trouble now - Gracie has advanced to mount!

Gracie is thinking about an arm triangle here, looking to tighten it up before moving to side control. Bika can see it coming though and defends well with a couple of strikes to the head and some good arm positioning.
Bika tries to lock up and control but Gracie gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.

Bika is desperately trying to improve his position but Gracie has a good base and remains in mount.

Gracie looks like he's working for a submission but he's not found anything just yet.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Bika slips a leg in and gets back to half guard.
Bika keeping hold of Gracie's head, controlling as best he can.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Bika wants to control but Gracie is keeping busy and won't allow it.
Bika is trying to stand.
Bika tries to strike from the bottom but it doesn't land.
Gracie prevents Bika from improving his position.
Gracie is looking to take a break and control but Bika is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Bika fakes a couple of low kicks, before throwing one on the third attempt. It connects and Gracie has to reset his feet before getting ready to engage.
Bika throws a hook but Gracie blocks it.
Gracie tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
Bika needs to keep his hands up - Gracie had a free shot at his head there.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Bika misses with a looping right.
The crowd cheers as Gracie lands an impressive looking overhand right. Bika doesn't seem phased though.
Bika throws the left hand but Gracie avoids the punch easily.
The fighters circling - Bika throws out the jab but it was never going to land.
A slow jab from Bika misses its intended target.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
A big right from Bika misses.
Bika catches Gracie with a nice straight right. He seems pissed - ooooh, it's on now! On like donkey kong!
Good standup being displayed there by Bika as he connects with a hook.
Gracie blocks a low kick nicely.

Bika scores with a takedown into Gracie's guard.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Bika accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

Gracie looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
Gracie has Bika pulled in close to control his posture.
Bika must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Gracie looking for submissions from the bottom but instead Bika passes into side control.
Gracie is not content to let Bika control the position.
The ground and pound from Bika seems to be hitting the mat more than his opponent.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Gracie is trying to get back to half guard. He's pushing on Bika's leg. He's managed it. Nice work.

Elvis Bika showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. This is the final round!


Bika throws a head kick that half lands.
Bika does a little shimmy and throws a leg kick. The leg kick missed by a considerable margin though, making him look a little bit silly for doing the shimmy.
Bika misses with a two punch combination.
Gracie shoots in for a takedown but Bika shows good takedown defense.
Bika circles away from the clinch attempt.
Gracie swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target.
Bika is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Gracie.
Bika ducks under a wild hook from Gracie.
Gracie throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Bika sees it coming and avoids it easily.
Gracie checks a leg kick.
Bika ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Gracie moves away.
Bika defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Gracie.
Bika turns his hip over beautifully as he lands a nice leg kick.
Bika misses with an uppercut. Gracie saw that one coming.
Gracie shoots in looking for a takedown but Bika manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Gracie's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.

Bika tries to bum rush Gracie with a series of wild strikes but Gracie uses good footwork to avoid the assault.

Gracie avoids a lazy jab quite easily.
Gracie fails to land the takedown.

Jeffson Gracie has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

Bika is keeping good posture, landing some ground and pound.

The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Bika stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Gracie swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Bika slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.
Bika cracks Gracie with an elbow. That is naaassty.

Gracie takes a couple of big shots there - the referee warns him that he has to defend himself better.

Gracie tries to buck Bika off but Bika is having none of it.
Gracie is working hard here to advance position.
Gracie is trying to get back to half guard. He's pushing on Bika's leg. He's managed it. Nice work.
Bika scores with a couple of good hammerfists.
Bika slips a nice elbow through Gracie's hands, connecting with Gracie's forehead.
Gracie is not content to let Bika control the position.
Bika is in a good position here but he's just trying to control... And he's not even managing to do that successfully.

Bika wants to take a breather but Gracie is having none of it.
Gracie is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Bika winds up and cracks Gracie with a swinging punch to the side of the head.

Gracie keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.
Gracie is pressing down on Bika's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

Bika might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Gracie haven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.

In the pre-fight buildup videos we saw Bika working his ground and pound in the gym.

Gracie working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Bika doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Bika manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
Bika is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
Gracie is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

And that's the end of the fight!
Elvis Bika comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Bika has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.

A less than humble Elvis Bika misjudged his post fight interview somewhat and came across a little too arrogant whilst trying to hype up his own abilities.
