PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Smasher Money (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Hanamichi Ono (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Money comes to the cage accompanied by Gives You Hell. We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Smasher Money !
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Hanamichi Ono!
The judges for this bout are Shigeki Fujiwara, Taro Takaoka and Shirou Masuda.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Money has a takedown stuffed.
Money tries to clinch but Ono moves out of range.
Money closes this distance looking for a takedown but Ono circles away.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Ono.
Ono with a poor takedown

and Money counters with a nice double leg into half guard.
Ono is trying to escape back to his feet but Money uses the scramble to pass into side control.
Money wants to stand but Ono has his arm trapped.

Money is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Ono is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.
Ono is trying to get back to half guard.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Ono can't do much from the bottom here.
Money misses with an attempted head punch from side control.
Money working away.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fight is doing enough on the ground.
Money misses with a kick to the body.
Ono closes the distance and clinches up with Money , looking for a takedown. Ono pushes Money against the cage but Money circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Smasher Money has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Hanamichi Ono.
Money throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Money looks for a takedown but Ono sprawls well.
The fight stays on the outside here - Money looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Ono throws a leg kick but Money sees it coming and checks it nicely.
Money is looking to clinch but Ono is avoiding it.

Money shoots in and bounces Ono off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.

Money trying to control the position from guard on top but Ono is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Money is breathing heavily.
Ono wants to get back to his feet but Money is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
Ono manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!

Ono is thinking about an arm triangle here, looking to tighten it up before moving to side control. Money can see it coming though and defends well with a couple of strikes to the head and some good arm positioning.

Ono wants to control the pace but Money is squirming around nicely.
Money gets back to half guard.
Ono working over Money with some ground and pound. Money looks like he wants out of this position, which is understandable.
Ono sitting in half guard, looking to land shots. Money defending well though.

Money kicks off Ono and gets to his feet.
Nice takedown defense from Money . No joy for Ono on that attempt.
Money shoots in for a takedown but Ono shows good takedown defense.

Ono darts in and clinches Money up against the cage.
Money looking to slow down the pace here.

Ono manages to break the clinch.

Ono shoots and misses
and Money counters with a lovely shot to the body.
Money fails with a takedown attempt.
Ono fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Money manages to avoid it.
Money does a little shimmy and throws a leg kick. The leg kick missed by a considerable margin though, making him look a little bit silly for doing the shimmy.
Ono is looking to clinch.
Money tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
Ono tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Money swivels and escapes.

Money rushes Ono and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.
Money can't get the takedown.
Ono taking a breather.

Money breaks from the clinch.
Money lands a head kick. Ono smiles back at him and beckons him forward.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Money scores a takedown into full mount!

Money stands up from the dominant position, so we're back on the feet.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Smasher Money dominated that round.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!


Money tries to grapple but his opponent circles

and Ono counters with a shoot takedown. Money fights it but they end up in guard.
Money is trying to keep Ono in close.
Smasher Money overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Ono trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
Ono sitting in guard, not really doing much.
Money working a defensive guard here.
Ono stopping the sweep attempt from Money .

Money has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Ono can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Ono thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
Money looking to sweep here. No luck so far.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Money closes the distance and clinches up with Ono, looking for a takedown. Money pushes Ono against the cage but Ono circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.

Ono rushes Money and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.
Money fails to land with a short punch on the inside.
Ono tries to pull guard but Money holds him up against the cage and eventually Ono drops back down to his feet.
Ono is looking for a takedown up against the cage. Money gets underhooks though and prevents the takedown attempt.
A short body shot lands from Ono as the two fighters clinch.

Ono breaks the clinch.

Ono shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Money 's guard.

Ono decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.

Money with a poor takedown

and Ono counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
Money keeping moving, preventing Ono from controlling successfully.
Money looking for a sweep. Not yet Money , not yet.
Ono postures up and lands some nice ground and pound.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Money working a defensive guard but Ono manages to pass into side control anyway.
Money on the wrong end of some ground and pound.
Ono trying to control the position but Money is working away.
Ono looks up at the clock and then as Money takes his cue and looks up at the clock too, Ono smacks him right in the chops with a big elbow! How rude!


It looks like Smasher Money has been cut.

Ono wants to control but Money is keeping him busy.
Money tries to get back to half guard but can't.

Ono stands up and beckons Money to his feet.
Ono slips a jab and a cross from Money .
Money shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Ono as he jumps to the side.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Smasher Money . That's going to take a lot out of him.

Ono closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Ono lands in his opponent's guard.

Ono decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Money , up you get!

Ono feints and as Money raises his hands in defense, Ono changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
Ono advances to half guard.
Ono is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen.
Ono prevents Money from improving his position.
Money holds on for dear life, maintaining half guard for now.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Ono blocks the strikes from Money .
Money tries to get to full guard but Ono has control of the leg.
Money slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Hanamichi Ono showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The cut man is working on Smasher Money 's cut.
That's time! Back to the action! This is the final round!


Money misses with an uppercut. Ono saw that one coming.
Money keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.

Ono scores with a nice takedown into half guard. Let's see what he's got on the ground.
Money trying to control here.
Money tries to roll over but Ono keeps him under control.
Money missing with punches from the bottom.
Money manages to get to full guard.

Money throwing some rather feeble looking strikes off his back.
Ono takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Money lands some strikes from the bottom.
Money trying to strike from the bottom but really, it's not the best position to be doing that from!

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.

Money clinches up against the cage.
Money throws an elbow but it's blocked.

Money successfully pulls guard.
Ono won't allow Money to get back to his feet.
Ono looking to sit in guard and control but Money gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

Money gets to his feet - Ono follows without any prompting.
Money throws a right and a left that both miss.

Ono fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Money , pushing him back against the cage.

Ono slows down the pace here.
Money tries to stall but Ono uses the opportunity to gain a better position.
Ono is stalling here.

Ono drags the fight down to the ground.

Ono working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Money doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Money manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Ono looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.

Money wanted to stand there but Ono had control of the position.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Ono can do anything to dispel that myth.
Ono avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.

Ono pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Money is keeping the position for now.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Ono pushes down on Money 's leg and manages to get into half guard.
Money has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Ono is working away from the top position though.
Ono looks to land a strike but Money avoids it nicely and regains full guard.
Money wants to stand but Ono is controlling the position.
Money looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
Money wants to stand up but Ono is controlling him.
Money trying to keep a closed guard but Ono is proving a slippery customer.

Money is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.

Hanamichi Ono comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Ono has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
