PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between JP Rizal (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Kalam Mekhar (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Mekhar is bobbing his head along to his entrance song: 80 Kidz - Alt A. JP Rizal has the edge in experience - let's see if he can make that count tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, JP Rizal!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Kalam Mekhar!
The judges for this bout are Yukihiro Yamamoto, Shigeki Sano and Ren Mimura.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Rizal misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Rizal shoots for a double leg takedown but Mekhar sprawls well. He's pushed Rizal's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.

Mekhar drives through with a takedown into guard.
Rizal is breathing heavily.
Rizal keeping full guard, as Mekhar tries to pass.
Mekhar throwing strikes from guard but Rizal blocks nicely.
Mekhar thows a big elbow that misses.
Mekhar is stalling in the full guard.
Let's hope that Mekhar has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.
Mekhar has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Rizal is proving hard to escape from.
Rizal looking for a sweep. Not yet Rizal, not yet.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Mekhar is looking to work some ground and pound but Rizal has wrist control.
Mekhar advances position into side control!
Rizal managing to avoid any damage from the strikes thrown by Mekhar.
Mekhar misses with the ground and pound.
Mekhar wants to control but Rizal is keeping him busy.

Mekhar stands up and we're back to a striking position.
Mekhar connects with a single shot there.

Rizal gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.
Mekhar trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
Mekhar throwing strikes but missing.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Rizal keeping full guard, as Mekhar tries to pass.
Mekhar trying to control the position from guard on top but Rizal is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Mekhar controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
Mekhar stands up over Rizal, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.
Mekhar works a leg free and moves into half guard.

Mekhar looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Mekhar drops an elbow to the side of Rizal's head.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Mekhar seems to be looking for submissions.
Mekhar throwing shots but Rizal is blocking nicely.

Mekhar is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Rizal defends it well.

Rizal is defending against the submission attempts here by Mekhar.
Rizal wants to get back to his feet.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Mekhar with a momentary lay and pray from half guard.
Mekhar works his way into full mount!

Mekhar goes for an armbar but he's fallen flat on his backside there and now Rizal is on top in guard.
Mekhar keeping moving, preventing Rizal from controlling successfully.
Rizal has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.

Mekhar escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Rizal gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Kalam Mekhar dominated that round.
That's time! Rizal's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.



Rizal shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.
Mekhar is pulling down on Rizal's head. It's preventing any offense from Rizal, at least for the moment.

Mekhar has thrown up a leg looking for a triangle. Rizal doesn't defend quickly enough and Mekhar has managed to lock this one up! Can Rizal escape?! NO! He's tapping out! Damn, that was a quick submission - congrats to Mekhar on a fantastic submission victory.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:36 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Triangle). Kalam Mekhar!
