PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Marcelo Garcia (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Bryan Fury (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that Bryan Fury was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 6 - 3 - 1, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Marcelo Garcia!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 10 - 7 - 1, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Bryan Fury!
The judges for this bout are Luis Engracia, Mauricio Rocha and Daniel Cesar.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Garcia misses with a left hand

and Fury counters by clinching up.
Garcia has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Fury is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.
Garcia tries for a takedown but Fury manages to get underhooks.
Fury gets double underhooks to prevent a takedown attempt from Garcia.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Marcelo Garcia. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Garcia has Fury pressed against the cage, preventing Fury from circling away and getting back to striking at range.
Garcia keeps control of Fury as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks.

Fury breaks from the clinch.
Fury misses with a body shot.
Garcia is trying hard to land a takedown here. Fury sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.
Garcia looks to land a body kick but Fury moved away.
Fury fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Garcia manages to avoid it.
Fury works Garcia's body with a nice hook.
A decent looking cross lands there for Fury.
Fury misses with a shot to the body

and Garcia moves into the clinch.

Garcia drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Fury gets the underhooks and prevents it.

Fury escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Garcia scores with a sloppy right hand. Fury should have avoided that one.


It looks like Bryan Fury has been cut.
Garcia swings wildly with a couple of big hooks
and Fury makes the exchange count by landing a cracking kick to the body. Garcia really felt that one!
Fury fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Fury throws a right and a left that both miss.
Fury throws a series of strikes that have Garcia backpedaling.
Garcia takes a jab on the nose. He smiles like he loves it and keeps coming.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Garcia moving in and out of range nicely, whilst landing the scoring shot.
Bryan Fury is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Fury connects with a body shot that sends Garcia's belly button to the back.
Garcia throws a hook but Fury avoids it easily.
Fury tries a head kick but it misses.
Fury throws a body punch but Garcia moves out of range.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Fury tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Garcia was well out of range. Poor timing from Fury.
Garcia uses good head movement to avoid the hook from Fury.
Fury cracks Garcia with a good shot that sees him stumbling back into the cage.
Fury moves out of range of the strikes.
Fury throws a right and a left that both miss.
Fury scores with a sloppy punch to the body. Not much technique there but it did the business.
Fury misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Garcia goes for a double leg but Fury avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Fury continues to drive forward.
Fury wants to push off and get back to the center of the mat but Garcia has him pressed against the cage.
Fury is trying to force a seperation but Garcia has the dominant position.
Garcia has Fury pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Fury manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing.
Garcia goes for a takedown attempt but Fury pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.
Garcia misses with an uppercut

and Fury counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Fury.
Fury looking to control the position here, rather than advance.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Garcia working for a triangle but Fury defends it easily.
Fury controls from within his opponent's guard.
Garcia is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Fury stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Garcia swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Garcia escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Fury gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Fury must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Fury stands and steps away. Garcia gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.
Fury slips a straight right by Garcia.
Fury lands a slapping body shot.
Garcia throws out a powerful jab.
Fury throws a head kick that connects with a bit of head and a bit of hand.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Garcia tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.

Fury drops Garcia with a beautiful combination! Garcia stares up at his opponent, who ushers him back to his feet - Fury is looking for the KO!


Garcia is rocked!
Garcia throws a hook but Fury blocks it.
Oh Garcia is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!
Some wild striking there from Fury.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
Fury misses with a jab, cross combination.

Garcia connects with an inside leg kick.
Fury cracks Garcia with a nasty uppercut that draws ooohs from the crowd and sends Garcia tumbling backwards onto the mat. He tries to recover but Fury pounces and lands a hail of unanswered strikes that forces the referee to step in to end the fight! Garcia is not happy but he gave the referee no choice!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:56 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Bryan Fury!
