And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.

The judges for this bout are Ivan Kurochkin, Fedor Mirinova and Sergei Dronov.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Joe thows a body shot but no joy.
Joe misses with a jab, cross combination.
Maupin wants to clinch but Joe slips to the side
and Joe counters with a nice body shot.
Maupin misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
Maupin moving in and out of range nicely, whilst landing the scoring shot.

A looping hook to the body misses from Joe. Maupin does a little dance to reset his feet.

John Joe seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Maupin moves forwards but Joe connects with a nice, crisp jab.

A telegraphed takedown attempt from Maupin is defended easily by Joe.

This is turning into a torrid day at the office for Maupin. He's trying desperately to land a takedown but he's failing miserably and getting slapped silly on the feet to compound his misery.

Joe swings for the body but Maupin moves out of range.
Joe swings and misses with a shot to the body
and he gets countered with a snapping leg kick.
Joe looking to take his opponent's legs away with the low kicks.
A solid leg kick lands there for Joe.
Joe feints a jab promting Maupin to slip. Joe then demonstrates his capabilities by jabbing again. Maupin slips again and ducks right into an uppercut.
Joe will need to close the distance a bit before he attacks - that leg kick was thrown from too far away.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Joe throws a feint and then finishes with a kick to the body.
Joe comes forward and lands a shot to the body, then darts back out of range.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
Joe throws a right high kick that is partially blocked by Maupin.

The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.

and Joe counters with a left and a right that stings Maupin.

Maupin shoots in and bounces Joe off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.
The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.
Joe has control of Maupin's left arm, preventing Maupin from doing any damage.
Maupin wants to control from the top but Joe keeps moving.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Joe can do anything to dispel that myth.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Joe moves his head to the side to avoid a jab but walks straight into a cross.

and Joe counters with a three punch combination, finished off with a leg kick. Nice work.

Some bone on bone action there as Maupin checks a low kick. Luckily it wasn't a particularly hard one.

That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.


Joe lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.

John Joe comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
