PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between John Ross (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Justin Jones (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Ross comes to the cage accompanied by Limp Bizkit-My way or the high way. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, John Ross!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Justin Jones!
The judges for this bout are Yves DeLean, Steve Smith and Ian Loll.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Ross thuds a left hand into Jones's body.
Jones looks really tired already! That doesn't bode well for a good, competitive fight!
Ross fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
Ross shoots for a takedown but Jones saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
Ross darts in looking for a takedown but Jones gets double underhooks and turns Ross into the cage.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for John Ross. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Ross tries a knee to the head but Jones blocks it.
A nice right hand lands inside from Ross.
Ross is looking to take this one to the mat.

Jones is rocked!

Ross is trying to trip Jones. He has hold of a leg but Jones is hopping around, keeping his balance for the moment. Ross persists though and gets the takedown into guard.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.

Ross is working the ground and pound from guard. He might want to try advancing position though to get more of an impact.
Ross is pushing down on Jones's leg trying to pass to half guard. Jones is fighting to maintain full guard but Ross has managed to sneak the leg through.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Ross knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Jones on the ground.

Jones felt the need to train up his defensive grappling in the buildup to the fight. Presumably he was expecting to be in a difficult position like this, so let's see if he can get out of it.

The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.

Ross postures up in Jones's guard and throws a big left but Jones blocks it.

Jones is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Ross is aware though and is defending well.

Ross got a little sloppy there for a moment and Jones has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Ross has managed to get both his arms back between Jones's legs - danger averted.
Ross working in close now, lands a nice elbow to the side of Jones's head.
Ross has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.

Ross drops back, looking for a kneebar! Jones looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Jones looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Jones!

Jones misses with a strike but at least he's keeping busy, looking to cause some damage - that will still help him when it comes to the judges scorecards.

Ross bucks up and manages to escape back to his feet!
Ross keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
Ross throws a head kick that looked like it stung.

Jones closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Ross did well to prevent Jones getting side control.

Ross tries to close the distance and clinch but Jones swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Ross throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Jones's waist but Jones gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Ross off to one side.

Ross rushes Jones and presses him up against the cage.
Jones takes an elbow to the forehead.
Jones is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Ross pulls him back up using the underhooks.
Jones takes a knee right on the jaw!
Jones wants a takedown.
Ross connects with a knee to the head.
Jones has Ross pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Ross manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing.
Ross lands with a good tight uppercut to the head.
Ross tries to land a knee to the head but Jones blocks with his arms.
Jones takes a knee right on the jaw!
Ross connects with a nasty looking knee right to Jones's face.
Jones tries for a takedown but Ross manages to get underhooks.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!

Ross's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Ross stuffs the takedown.
Ross throws a right and a left that both miss.
Ross lands with a nice body kick.
Ross shoots in looking for a takedown. Jones tries to sprawl out of it but Ross keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Jones manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Jones avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

John Ross dominated that round.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.


Jones throws a head kick that looked like it stung.

Ross lands a huge takedown. Jones is out but the ref is slow to react and Ross lands 3 more undefended punches before the fight is stopped. Brutal finish. Jones lies on the canvas for a good minute before the doctors bring him round. Good to see he's OK.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:08 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). John Ross!
Post fight, John Ross stared into the camera and said 'Want to thank the fans and my sponsors... without them this wouldnt have been possible'.
