Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between RJ Rodgers (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Brad Johnson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Fingers crossed for an exciting fight - I'm sure both fighters are looking for a nice under the table bonus!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, RJ Rodgers!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Brad Johnson!
The judges for this bout are Matheus Silva, Leandro Rodrigues and Seu Braga.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Johnson shoots in looking for a takedown. Rodgers tries to sprawl out of it but Johnson keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Rodgers manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Johnson looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.
Johnson fails to land the takedown.
Rodgers tries to clinch up.
Rodgers ducks under a wild hook from Johnson.
Johnson thows a body shot but no joy.
Johnson throws a wild combination but nothing lands.
Horrible takedown by Johnson or perhaps it was just good defense by Rodgers which made him look bad.
RJ Rodgers has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Brad Johnson.
Johnson stuffs the takedown attempt from Rodgers. Rodgers gets slowly back to his feet.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Johnson postures up and cracks his opponent a couple of times before moving back into close ground control. Rodgers looks a forlorn figure.
You get the feeling that Rodgers really doesn't like being in this position too much.
Rodgers wriggling around on the bottom manages to avoid the strikes thrown by Johnson.
Rodgers is looking to improve his position but Johnson isn't that keen on the idea.

Johnson goes for an armbar but he's fallen flat on his backside there and now Rodgers is on top in guard.

Johnson flails away from the bottom but he's not doing any damage.

Johnson has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.

With the two fighters working up against the cage, Johnson just misses with a elbow thrown towards Rodgers's brow.

Rodgers lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears.
Rodgers uses his free foot to push down on Johnson's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Johnson.
Johnson tries to hold on but Rodgers postures up.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that RJ Rodgers will probably get the nod.

Rodgers drives through and clinches with Johnson against the cage.
Johnson has had enough of the clinch but Rodgers keeps him there for the moment.
Johnson wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.
Johnson goes for a takedown in the clinch but Rodgers prevents it.
Rodgers stalling in the clinch but Johnson improves position.
Johnson drops down for a takedown but doesn't get it.

Rodgers escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Johnson throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.

Rodgers misses with a wild body shot.

Johnson shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Rodgers's guard.

Johnson drops back, looking for a kneebar! Rodgers looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Rodgers looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Rodgers!

Johnson is trying to stand back up. He's worked his way up against the cage but Rodgers has just dragged him back down to the mat.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

Johnson bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Rodgers's guard.

Rodgers not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Johnson is working to avoid the ground and pound but Rodgers connects with a decent elbow.
Johnson sneaks a leg under to get back to half guard.

Rodgers stands up and beckons Johnson to join him on the feet.
Rodgers fakes with a right hand and throws a good leg kick, right into the thigh. That had to hurt Johnson.

Rodgers feints and as Johnson raises his hands in defense, Rodgers changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.

Johnson throws his legs up looking for a submission but Rodgers uses it to pass to side control.
Johnson is positioning himself to get back to half guard.

Rodgers creates some space and throws a big elbow, but Johnson sees it coming and moves his head just enough to avoid the strike.
Johnson is moving his hips around well on the bottom and has managed to get back to half guard.
Johnson moves into full guard.
Johnson looking to hit a scissor sweep but Rodgers is one step ahead there.

The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Johnson wants to advance to full mount but Rodgers doesn't think that's going to happen and regains full guard instead.
