PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Leonardo Valdes (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Keisuke Takeshi (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Leonardo Valdes!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Keisuke Takeshi!
The judges for this bout are Tatsuya Matsuyama, Yuuki Gou and Shigeki Sano.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Valdes fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Takeshi to the ground. Valdes is now in Takeshi's guard.
Takeshi is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Valdes is controlling him.
Valdes stands up over Takeshi, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.
Valdes slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.
Valdes tries to advance to mount but can't.

Valdes wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Takeshi, who protects the arm well.
Takeshi really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Valdes. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Takeshi gets back to half guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Takeshi tries to get to full guard but Valdes has control of the leg.

Takeshi gets full guard.

Takeshi looking for a guillotine here but Valdes defends easily.
Takeshi keeping moving, preventing Valdes from controlling successfully.
Valdes throws a big right hand that misses.

Takeshi is working an open guard so Valdes takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.
Takeshi takes a kick to the body and keeps moving.

Valdes moves into range and clinches up with Takeshi.

Takeshi stuffs the takedown.
Takeshi goes for a spinning back kick but it misses.
Takeshi throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.

Valdes instigates a clinch.
Valdes tries to score a body lock takedown but Takeshi shows good agility there to stay on his feet.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Valdes's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Takeshi shoots in but doesn't get the takedown

and Valdes counters into the clinch. Nicely done.
Valdes really is a fat lump.

Valdes has double underhooks and is working for a body lock takedown. He's got it. The fighters land in half guard but Takeshi regains guard immediately.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Valdes content to stall in guard here.
Valdes is breathing heavily.
Takeshi keeping full guard, as Valdes tries to pass.
Valdes's corner is telling him to maintain position.
Takeshi wants to stand up but Valdes is controlling him.
The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.
Valdes controls the pace of the fight for a moment.

Leonardo Valdes has forced the referee to step in and bring the fight back to the feet.
Valdes is looking to clinch.
Valdes throws a head kick but Takeshi moves out of range.
Valdes is looking to clinch.
Takeshi looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Valdes is fending him off so far but Takeshi persists. Nope, Valdes circles away and we're back to standing.

Valdes scores with a takedown into Takeshi's guard.
Takeshi is looking to sweep but instead, Valdes has passed into half guard.

Valdes is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Takeshi is just riding it out for now. Valdes eventually gives up the hold.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
The referee calls for the fighters to work.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Leonardo Valdes dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.



The fight moves into the clinch position.
Valdes jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Takeshi walks away with a smile on his face. Valdes gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.
Takeshi tries to clinch up
and Valdes counters with a flying knee. Nice.
Takeshi will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
Valdes lands with a good body shot.
Valdes looks to land a combination but Takeshi avoids it well.
Valdes thows a body shot but no joy.
Valdes's jab looks to have found its range, popping Takeshi under the eye.
Valdes throws a lazy right hand but Takeshi sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.
Takeshi looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Valdes is fending him off so far but Takeshi persists. Nope, Valdes circles away and we're back to standing.

Valdes tries to clinch up but Takeshi circles away and keeps his distance.
Takeshi is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
Takeshi is breathing heavily.
Takeshi stuffs the takedown attempt from Valdes. Valdes gets slowly back to his feet.

Takeshi closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.
Takeshi has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Valdes is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.
Leonardo Valdes has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Keisuke Takeshi.
Valdes can't get the takedown.
Takeshi is trying to push Valdes away but Valdes has him pressed against the cage, so he's going nowhere.
Valdes is looking to control Takeshi's arms but Takeshi gets an underhook and turns him. Now Valdes has his back to the cage.

Valdes breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.

Valdes closes the distance and clinches.
Valdes is trying to pull guard but Takeshi has him pressed against the cage.
Valdes is looking for a takedown up against the cage. Takeshi gets underhooks though and prevents the takedown attempt.

Valdes escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.

Takeshi drives through and clinches with Valdes against the cage.
Takeshi has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Valdes avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.
Both fighters working to control the clinch.
Takeshi is looking for a takedown up against the cage. Valdes gets underhooks though and prevents the takedown attempt.
Valdes is clearly stalling here... Pick up the pace son.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Valdes wriggles free and stands up.
Valdes shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Valdes misses with a jab, cross combination.
Takeshi fails in his attempt to clinch.
Valdes looks for a takedown but Takeshi sprawls well.
Valdes circles away from the clinch attempt.
Valdes takes a body punch but keeps moving.
Leonardo Valdes is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

Takeshi darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.

Valdes is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Valdes regains full guard. Nicely done.
Valdes is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Valdes has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.

Takeshi throws a wild body kick that Valdes sees coming a mile off.
Valdes shoots in for a double leg but Takeshi sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.

Valdes has taken the fight to the clinch.

Valdes pulls guard effortlessly.
Takeshi trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
Valdes trying to punch from his back but it's not doing any damage.
Valdes is looking to stand up but Takeshi isn't so interested in that idea.
Valdes lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Takeshi!
Takeshi tries to hold on but Valdes postures up.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Valdes looking to ground and pound his opponent to a finish here.
Takeshi tries to reverse the position but Valdes maintains control.
Leonardo Valdes overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Takeshi is squirming around, avoiding Valdes's attempts to control the action.
Valdes tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.
Valdes pausing momentarily but resumes with a couple of decent strikes that do a bit of damage.

Takeshi is in a horrible position here. Valdes smacks him with another shot as he tries to escape the position.

Oooooh, big shot lands for Valdes! Takeshi is hurt baaadly! Valdes is firing away with more strikes - Takeshi is covering up... the ref is warning him to do something. He's just covering up though still and the ref has to step in to end the fight! This one is all over!
