PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Mario Ruskov (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Elliott Stanley (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Stanley has chosen Terror - One with the Underdogs as his entrance music. Elliott Stanley is the more experienced fighter, so let's see if that makes a difference tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Mario Ruskov!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Elliott Stanley!
The judges for this bout are Alec Ball, Trevor Gratis and Dillan Fox.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Ruskov displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Stanley.
Ruskov fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Stanley avoids it really well and circles away.
Stanley shoots in for a takedown but Ruskov shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.

Stanley bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.
Ruskov tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Stanley wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.
Stanley really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Ruskov. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Ruskov wants to control but Stanley postures up.
Stanley staying calm.
Ruskov stops Stanley from passing to mount.

Ruskov can't do much from the bottom here.
Stanley wants to control but Ruskov is keeping him busy.

Ruskov throws Stanley to one side and escapes!

Stanley has Ruskov up against the cage in a clinch.
Stanley has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Ruskov avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.
Mario Ruskov has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Elliott Stanley.

Ruskov wants to break free. God knows he wants to breaaaak freeee.

Ruskov is fighting off a takedown attempt but Stanley is just too persistent for him and manages to trip Ruskov to the mat. Ruskov regains guard as soon as the fighters hit the mat.

Stanley wants to control from the top but Ruskov keeps moving.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Stanley misses with a few strikes there.

Stanley has taken the fight to the clinch.

Stanley drags the fight down to the ground.
Ruskov looking to pass the guard.
Stanley looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
Stanley trying to keep a closed guard but Ruskov is proving a slippery customer.
Stanley looking to hit a scissor sweep but Ruskov is one step ahead there.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Stanley can do anything to dispel that myth.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Stanley manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!

Ruskov manages to work a leg through to get back to half guard here. Good work there by Ruskov, under a barage of strikes from Stanley.
Stanley wants to stand up but Ruskov is controlling the position.
Ruskov wants to get back to full guard.
Ruskov wants to control but Stanley is keeping busy.
Ruskov controlling the position for now.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Ruskov is looking to control Stanley's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Ruskov avoid being mounted?
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Elliott Stanley dominated that round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.

Ruskov tries to close the distance and clinch but Stanley swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.

Mario Ruskov is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

Stanley closes the distance and pushes Ruskov back into the cage.

Stanley fakes low and throws an overhand right that catches Ruskov on the side of the head.
Stanley throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Ruskov.

Ruskov shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Stanley pinned against the cage. Stanley gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.

No luck with that takedown attempt from Stanley.
Ruskov takes a shot right to the liver - Bas would have been proud of that punch.

Stanley must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Stanley feints a jab promting Ruskov to slip. Stanley then demonstrates his capabilities by jabbing again. Ruskov slips again and ducks right into an uppercut.

That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Mario Ruskov. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Ruskov misses with a takedown attempt - Stanley sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
Ruskov shoots in looking for a takedown. Stanley tries to sprawl out of it but Ruskov keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Stanley manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Elliott Stanley showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's time! Ruskov's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. And we move into the final round!


Stanley throws a head kick but Ruskov moves out of range.
Ruskov shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Stanley sprawls well. Stanley wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Ruskov gets slowly back to his feet.
Ruskov lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Stanley circles away quickly and effectively.

Ruskov gets tackled into the cage by Stanley. Stanley maintains the clinch.

Ruskov is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Stanley doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Ruskov.

Stanley dives in for a single leg takedown but Ruskov sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage.
Ruskov tries to break free but Stanley pushes him back against the cage.
Stanley has Ruskov pressed against the cage, preventing Ruskov from circling away and getting back to striking at range.

Ruskov has dropped down and is looking to force the takedown but it's defended by Stanley after a bit of a struggle.

Stanley breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Stanley tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Ruskov swivels and escapes.
Stanley is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
Danga de danga de dang - Stanley scores with a four punch combination!
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Stanley tries to score a power double leg takedown but Ruskov sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Stanley somewhat.
Mario Ruskov has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Elliott Stanley.
Stanley takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

Stanley drives through and clinches with Ruskov against the cage.
Mario Ruskov has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Elliott Stanley is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Mario Ruskov.
I think Stanley has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
