PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Mike Diaz (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Nathan Caines (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Chooooooooon! I think Diaz might be my favorite fighter, now he's come out to National Anthem. Nathan Caines has the eye of the tiger tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Mike Diaz!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Nathan Caines!
The judges for this bout are James Ackerman, Daniel Bishop and James Glass.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Diaz shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Caines stuffs the takedown attempt from Diaz. Diaz gets slowly back to his feet.

Diaz shoots in for a takedown and gets it.
Diaz is keen to just control but Caines is a slippery customer.
Diaz takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.
Diaz lands strikes from half guard.
Caines tries to roll over but Diaz keeps him under control.
Diaz knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Caines on the ground.
Diaz stalling.
The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring.
Caines slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work.

Diaz wants to stand but Caines has a closed guard, so he can't escape.

Diaz cracks Caines with a solid left hand.
Diaz has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.

Caines is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.
Diaz regains full guard. Nicely done.
Diaz is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control.

Caines thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.

Caines drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Diaz manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Caines has Diaz in his guard.
Diaz wants to control from the top but Caines keeps moving.

Caines escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Diaz gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Caines is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.

A close round but Nathan Caines will probably get the nod.

Caines closes the distance and clinches.
Caines is trying to break the clinch but Diaz has him pressed against the ropes.
Diaz really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

Caines stops a takedown attempt from Diaz.
Diaz fails to pull the fight into his guard.

Caines is trying to break free.
Diaz tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Caines smiles and moves away.
The fight stays on the outside here - Caines looks like he's thinking about clinching though.

Diaz decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.

Caines is looking to sinch up a gullotine here but Diaz pulls his head out easily.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Caines should think about turning a few of those tyres round his middle into muscle if he wants people to take him seriously as an athlete.
Caines moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.

Caines is looking for a triangle but Diaz pushes his legs off easily.

Caines wants to sweep but no luck.

Caines bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Diaz's guard.
Caines slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.

The fighters are tangled up in the ropes here. We might need a restart if the fighters can't break free themselves.

Diaz tries to buck Caines off but Caines is having none of it.

Caines tries to advance to mount but Diaz denies him.

Nathan Caines showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. This is the final round!

Caines has his foot on Diaz's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Diaz works his way back into a safe position though.

Nathan Caines has got the better of the ground game so far.
Caines lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Diaz!

Diaz is controlling an arm, preventing Caines from taking his back. Although keeping him in mount is no better to be honest.

Caines is working for a kimura here but Diaz manages to reverse the position and he's now in Caines's guard.

Caines is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Diaz is working the ground and pound from guard. He might want to try advancing position though to get more of an impact.

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Diaz accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

Diaz has a momentary lapse of concentration, allowing Caines to throw up a leg and lock on what appears to be a pretty tight triangle! Diaz is fighting it off but it's all too little too late - Caines pulls down on the head and he's put Diaz to sleep! This one is all over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 5:01 of round 3, we have a winner by way of Submission (Triangle). Nathan Caines!
