Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Barristan Selmy (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Tom Thompson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). I don't know about you partner, but I'm pumped for this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 11 - 3 - 0, fighting out of New York, Barristan Selmy!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Tom Thompson!
The judges for this bout are Frank Antenori, Don Winkell and Jack Bonds.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Jab, cross, leg kick. Nice combination by Thompson!

Selmy fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Thompson to the ground. Selmy is now in Thompson's guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Selmy throws a big elbow that misses.
Selmy postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Selmy trying to control but Thompson is working from the bottom.
Selmy has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Selmy wants to pass the guard but Thompson is keeping the position.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of Barristan Selmy.
Thompson wants to clinch up but Selmy keeps it at a distance.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Thompson closes the distance and lands a one-two.
Thompson misses with a straight right.

Selmy throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Thompson tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Selmy is in Thompson's guard.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.
Selmy sitting in guard, not really doing much.

Selmy is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Thompson is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Thompson has escaped and now he's on top!
Thompson trying to control the position from guard on top but Selmy is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.
Selmy wants to sweep but no luck.

The ref stands the fighters back up, due to lack of action by Tom Thompson.
Thompson fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.

Selmy shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Thompson is trying to defend but Selmy finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Selmy trying to mount his opponent but Thompson defends it.
Selmy throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.
Selmy missing with some ground and pound from the half guard.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Thompson trying to control here but he's found himself mounted! Oh no!
Selmy with a couple of short strikes.
Selmy looking to finish Thompson with some ground and pound. This is bad for Thompson!
Selmy controlling the position easily from mount.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Selmy is working on an americana here. Ooh, that looks pretty nasty! Nope, Thompson has managed to escape the submission attempt.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Barristan Selmy dominated that round.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!


Thompson misses with a combination

and Selmy counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
Selmy lands a couple of decent looking shots.
Selmy looking to pass the guard.
Barristan Selmy overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Selmy preventing the sweep.
Selmy wants to control from the top but Thompson keeps moving.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Selmy moving in and out of range nicely, whilst landing the scoring shot.

Nice straight punches there by Selmy. You know Roy Jones Jr respects the hands of Selmy.
Thompson tries to clinch up.
Selmy dips down and scores with a jab to the body.
Thompson tries to clinch up.
A combination from Thompson does no damage.
Thompson drops his hands momentarily and Selmy takes advantage with a crisp shot to the head.
Selmy's corner calls for a 1-2. Selmy obliges with the 1 part as he scores the single shot and moves back out of range.
Thompson is breathing heavily.
Selmy throws a body punch but Thompson moves out of range.

Selmy looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into side control! Oh, that's bad for Thompson!
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Selmy wants to control but Thompson is keeping him busy.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Selmy wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Thompson, who protects the arm well.
Selmy advances nicely into full mount.
Selmy lands with some strikes.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Selmy tries to control but Thompson wriggling away.
Thompson wants to control but Selmy is having none of it.
Selmy scores with a couple of good head shots there.
Selmy controlling the position easily from mount.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Selmy looking for an armbar but decides to keep the dominant position instead.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Barristan Selmy dominated that second round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. This is the final round!


Selmy paws at his opponent with the jab and then lunges in with a straight, right on the button.
Thompson throws a body kick that misses.
Tom Thompson is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Selmy drops his hands and takes a jab to the jaw for his troubles.

Selmy shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard.

Selmy seems to be looking for submissions.

Selmy is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Thompson doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Selmy.

Selmy prevents Thompson from improving his position.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Selmy working Thompson over with strikes.
Thompson works his way to full guard. Good work.
Thompson utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
Selmy slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.
Thompson takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

Selmy wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Thompson, who protects the arm well.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Selmy has an Americana. Thompson didn't react quickly enough there and he's in big trouble now! He tries to squirm out but is forced to tap! Selmy is delighted and gyrates in front of the ring girls. They seem to like the attention - it'll be interesting to see if Selmy hooks up with any of them at the after show party.
