Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Dean Lister (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Steve Cantwell (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Steve Cantwell has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 12 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Dean Lister!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 13 - 8 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Steve Cantwell!
The judges for this bout are Gwen Towbar, Chris Downing and Tiny Johnson.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Cantwell looks to land a left hand but Lister moved out of range nicely.
Some wild striking there from Cantwell.
Lister throws a combination. Cantwell tries to block but a couple of punches get through.
Cantwell moves into range and throws a combination. A nice jab followed by a hook to the body.


It looks like Dean Lister has been cut.
Lister fails with the takedown.
Lister tries to close the distance and clinch but Cantwell swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Cantwell throws a sloppy head kick and Lister moves out of range easily.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Cantwell enables Lister to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Cantwell manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.
Lister stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Cantwell swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Cantwell is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control.
Lister trying to control but Cantwell is working from the bottom.
Lister wants to pass the guard but Cantwell is keeping the position.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Lister throws a big elbow that misses.

Lister drops back looking for a leg! Cantwell is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Cantwell manages to kick Lister off! Lister jumps back into Cantwell's guard.
Lister loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Lister accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Lister won't allow Cantwell to get back to his feet.
Lister stands and throws Cantwell's legs to the side, diving into side control.
Cantwell is trying to buck Lister off.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Lister scores with punches from side control.

Lister tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Lister has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
Lister tries to move into full mount but can't pass Cantwell's legs.
Lister lands a knee to the body and a forearm to the face.

Lister thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Lister connects with a decent looking elbow from side control that caused Cantwell some visible discomfort.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Cantwell is trying to buck Lister off.
Lister throwing ground and pound but whilst doing so, he forgets to control position and Cantwell works his way back to half guard. Good composure under pressure.
Lister not landing any meaningful shots this time.

Lister is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Cantwell sees it coming and defends easily.

Lister is looking for a kimura but Cantwell is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Lister to get the leverage.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Lister missing with some ground and pound from the half guard.
Cantwell blocking the ground and pound attempt from Lister.
Cantwell pushes Lister off looking to stand but Lister dives back in and keeps control.
Cantwell wants to control but Lister is keeping busy.

Lister stands up from half guard.
Cantwell throws the left hand but Lister avoids the punch easily.
Lister misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
Cantwell throws a nice looking combination but Lister bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Lister tries for a takedown but Cantwell sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Dean Lister. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Nice defenses there by Lister.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!



Lister forces Cantwell back against the cage and clinches.
Lister keeps the fight in the clinch, despite Cantwell's efforts to push away.
Lister is looking to break free of the clinch but Cantwell has double underhooks.

Lister manages to pull guard. Let's see whether he can land a sub off his back.

Cantwell gets to his feet - Lister follows without any prompting.

Lister closes the distance and pushes Cantwell back into the cage.
Lister tries to pull guard but Cantwell forces him back to his feet, against the cage.
Cantwell is trying to break the clinch but Lister has him pressed against the cage.
Cantwell can't break the clinch.
Lister misses the knee to the body. Nice hip positioning from Cantwell.
Lister can't get the takedown.
Cantwell wants a takedown but no success here.
Lister lands a hook that snaps the head of Cantwell backwards.

Lister tries to break the clinch but Cantwell is controlling the position.

Lister manages to break the clinch.
Dean Lister is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Cantwell scores with a punch to the gut of his opponent.
Lister walks into a jab.
Lister fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Dean Lister. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Cantwell lands with a big left! Lister is wobbled badly! Cantwell comes in with a flurry of punches and drops Lister to the floor. The ref jumps in to save him from unneccessary punishment.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:27 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Punches). Steve Cantwell!
After winning the bout, Steve Cantwell thanked all his fans and promised he'd do even better in his next fight. The crowd seemed to love his humility.
