PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Elija McIntosh (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Osamu Suzuki (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Elija McIntosh!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Osamu Suzuki!
The judges for this bout are Cecil Peabody, Gwen Towbar and Stewart Dunkirk.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Nice takedown defense from Suzuki. No joy for McIntosh on that attempt.
No luck for McIntosh with that takedown attempt.
McIntosh shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Elija McIntosh. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Suzuki cracks a nice hook into McIntosh's ribs.

Suzuki closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
McIntosh looking for a sweep but Suzuki has passed into full mount! Oh no!
McIntosh tries to hold on but Suzuki pushes him away.
McIntosh is just holding on here. Suzuki manages to take his back.

McIntosh is displaying good submission defense - not really looking in danger of submitting to the rear naked choke at the moment. That could change in an instant of course if Suzuki gets his way!
McIntosh looks to control his opponent's hands but he's not mananging it at the moment.

McIntosh tries to roll but Suzuki sticks to his back.
McIntosh looking very determined here, making life difficult for Suzuki.
McIntosh tries to escape the position - he's now mounted. Is that better or worse? Hard to tell!
McIntosh avoids a series of strikes thrown by Suzuki.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
McIntosh really trying hard to get back to half guard here.
Suzuki can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as McIntosh is looking to escape.
McIntosh blocking the ground and pound.
McIntosh is working to get back to half guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
McIntosh has given up his back, trying to stand up. Not clever.

Suzuki has his hand under the chin of his opponent looking for the choke. He's nearly got it! This one could be all over! But no, McIntosh has freed his hand and lives to survive another… well, another couple of seconds at least!

The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Suzuki is working for the rear naked choke. He has one arm under the chin but McIntosh has hold of the other arm. A bit of a stalemate here.
McIntosh tries to escape the position - he's now mounted. Is that better or worse? Hard to tell!
Suzuki thowing strikes but they're hitting the gloves, not doing any damage.
McIntosh is looking to get to half guard.

Suzuki raining down shots from the mount!
Suzuki throws an elbow from mount that misses. Lucky escape for McIntosh because Suzuki loaded up on that one.
McIntosh tries to lock up and control but Suzuki gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.
McIntosh is working to get back to half guard.
McIntosh wants to hold on but Suzuki pushes him away.

Suzuki wants to finish this one by submission but McIntosh is holding onto his waist, trying to prevent any attacks from Suzuki.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.



Suzuki scores with a nice takedown into half guard. Let's see what he's got on the ground.
McIntosh regains full guard. Nicely done.
McIntosh tries to land a sweep but no joy.
McIntosh utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
Suzuki trying to control the position from guard on top but McIntosh is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Suzuki advances position into side control!

Suzuki looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything.
Suzuki is breathing heavily.
McIntosh wants to get back to his feet but Suzuki is dominant here and he's now got McIntosh's back!
Suzuki takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
McIntosh is trying to escape the mount.
McIntosh wants to improve position but instead he's given up his back.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Suzuki has the hooks in. McIntosh is trying to push off one leg but he has to do so cautiously to avoid being submitted.
McIntosh rolls and manages to get back to half guard. Nicely done.

Suzuki is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. McIntosh doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Suzuki.
McIntosh keeping control of the leg, stopping his opponent passing to mount.

McIntosh tries to get to full guard but Suzuki has control of the leg.
The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Suzuki connects with a nice short shot to McIntosh's temple.

Suzuki is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.
McIntosh is trying to stand back up but Suzuki is controlling him

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
McIntosh wants to control but Suzuki is keeping busy.

Suzuki is working for a kimura but McIntosh is defending it quite comfortably.
McIntosh is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Osamu Suzuki showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's time! Back to the action! The crowd applaud as we get ready to start the final round!



McIntosh drives through with a takedown into guard.
McIntosh wants to control from the top but Suzuki keeps moving.
McIntosh postures up in Suzuki's guard and throws a big left but Suzuki blocks it.

Suzuki had isolated an arm as going for an omaplata. McIntosh is defending the submission well but is in a very vulnerable position. Suzuki Is leaning forward trying to finish the omaplata but decides to abandon it, and take McIntosh's back instead.

Suzuki takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

Suzuki tries to get the hooks in deep but McIntosh pushed the leg off.

Suzuki looking for the choke from the back.
McIntosh is defending well here and trying to improve his position.
McIntosh covering up well under a barage of strikes.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Suzuki doesn't have the hooks in and McIntosh manages to turn into his guard.

Suzuki looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.

McIntosh stands up from Suzuki's guard - McIntosh perhaps looking for a knockout.
Suzuki swings for the body but McIntosh moves out of range.

Suzuki feints and as McIntosh raises his hands in defense, Suzuki changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
Suzuki sitting in guard, not really doing much.

Suzuki decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on McIntosh, up you get!

McIntosh misses with a takedown attempt

and Suzuki counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.
McIntosh avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Suzuki.
Suzuki is thwarting McIntosh's attempts to control the position.
McIntosh missing with punches from the bottom.
McIntosh is trying to control but Suzuki passes into side control!

Suzuki wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by McIntosh, who protects the arm well.
Suzuki scores with a couple of short elbows.

Suzuki is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. McIntosh knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.
Suzuki wants to lay and pray for a moment but McIntosh keeps working.

And that's the end of the fight!
Osamu Suzuki comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Suzuki has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
