Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Steven Stamkos (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Brandon Wesley (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Fingers crossed for an exciting fight - I'm sure both fighters are looking for a nice under the table bonus!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Steven Stamkos!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Brandon Wesley!
The judges for this bout are Alec Ball, Gregory Folan and Yves DeLean.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Stamkos misses with a takedown
enabling Wesley to counter with a crisp jab.
Stamkos tries for a takedown but Wesley circles away easily

and Wesley counters by clinching up.
Stamkos has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Wesley avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Steven Stamkos. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Wesley is working for takedown but Stamkos is calmly controlling the position for now.
Wesley drops down looking for an ankle pick but Stamkos pulls his leg out and moves away.
Stamkos shoots in looking for a takedown but Wesley manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Stamkos's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.

Stamkos shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Wesley but Wesley pushes him off and we're back to square one.

Stamkos shoots and misses
and Wesley counters nicely by changing levels and landing a hook to the body.
Wesley jabs at Stamkos's body.
Wesley shuffles to his left behind two crisp jabs. Stamkos eats them both and turns towards Wesley to reposition himself and eats a stinging right hand-left hook combo.
Wesley throws a series of strikes that have Stamkos backpedaling.
Wesley tries to score a power double leg takedown but Stamkos sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Wesley somewhat.
Stamkos shoots in for a takedown but Wesley shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
Stamkos takes a hook to the side of the head. I wonder if that's got his ears ringing.
Stamkos looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Wesley is fending him off so far but Stamkos persists. Nope, Wesley circles away and we're back to standing.
Wesley shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Stamkos sprawls well. Stamkos wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Wesley gets slowly back to his feet.

Stamkos tries to keep at a distance but Wesley has taken the fight into the clinch.

This has been an exciting period of action!
Wesley is trying to break the clinch but Stamkos is controlling him.
Wesley is trying to force a seperation but Stamkos has the dominant position.

Wesley successfully pulls guard.

Stamkos is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Wesley is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Wesley has escaped and now he's on top!
Stamkos keeping moving, preventing Wesley from controlling successfully.
Wesley tries to stand but Stamkos is controlling from the bottom.
Wesley wants to pass the guard but Stamkos is keeping the position.
Wesley seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.

Stamkos looking for a guillotine here but Wesley defends easily.

Stamkos looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.

Stamkos working away from the bottom but not quite defensive enough there because Wesley has passed into half guard!
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Wesley is looking to advance position but Stamkos won't allow it.

Wesley might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Stamkos haven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.
Stamkos manages to land a sweep and he's now on top! Lovely Jiu Jitsu!

Stamkos looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.

Wesley is defending against the submission attempts here by Stamkos.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Brandon Wesley dominated that round.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.


Wesley bobs and weaves and throws out a fast jab that snaps Stamkos's head backwards.
Stamkos fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Stamkos doesn't succeed with the takedown
and Wesley counters with a three punch combination, finished off with a leg kick. Nice work.

Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Wesley stuns Stamkos with a nice body shot, before stepping back out of range.

Wesley is trying to push Stamkos away but Stamkos has him pressed against the cage, so he's going nowhere.
Stamkos keeps the fight in the clinch, despite Wesley's efforts to push away.

The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Wesley jumps guard and drags Stamkos to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back.

Wesley is looking to cinch up a triangle. Stamkos throws the leg off to one side though and gets in tight to Wesley's body to avoid the submission. Wesley has instead reached around Stamkos's neck and now has a guillotine! Oh, this is biiiig trouble! Wesley arches his back and squeezes and forces the tap from his hapless opponent.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:20 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Guillotine). Brandon Wesley!
