PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Warren Sap (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Hugo Stiglitz (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Stiglitz has chosen Inglorious Bastards SoundTrack as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Warren Sap!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Hugo Stiglitz!
The judges for this bout are Yves DeLean, Gregory Folan and Dillan Fox.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A combination from Stiglitz does no damage.
Stiglitz changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Sap tries to avoid it but Stiglitz manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Sap to the ground. Sap escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Stiglitz tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.

Sap bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
Stiglitz is looking to regain half guard here but Sap keeps moving and retains side control.
Stiglitz manages to get back to half guard.
Sap wants to pass to mount but Stiglitz is defending the position.
Sap seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime.

Stiglitz is looking to sinch up a gullotine here but Sap pulls his head out easily.
Stiglitz is trying to control but can't.
Sap lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Stiglitz regains full guard. Nicely done.
Sap knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Stiglitz on the ground.
Stiglitz tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Sap has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.
Sap pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Stiglitz is keeping the position for now.
Sap wants to control from the top but Stiglitz keeps moving.

Stiglitz escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Sap gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Sap postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head.
Sap landing some decent shots from guard.

Stiglitz looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.

Sap trying to control but Stiglitz is working from the bottom.
Both fighters really going for it on the ground here!
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Sap landing some decent shots from guard.

Sap postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Sap working in close now, lands a nice elbow to the side of Stiglitz's head.
Hammerfist, elbow! yells Sap's corner. There ya go! There ya go!
Sap is working Stiglitz over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.

Sap trying to control the position from guard on top but Stiglitz is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Stiglitz throws a couple of shots from the bottom but they don't land.

Sap passes Stiglitz's left leg - he's now in half guard.
Sap lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears.

Stiglitz is looking to sinch up a gullotine here but Sap pulls his head out easily.

Stiglitz keeping moving, preventing Sap from controlling successfully.

Stiglitz has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Sap can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
Sap makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard.
Stiglitz wants to sweep here but Sap controlling him for the moment.
Sap trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
Stiglitz looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
Sap working in close now, lands a nice elbow to the side of Stiglitz's head.
Stiglitz is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Sap looking to control the position here, rather than advance.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Sap stopping the sweep attempt from Stiglitz.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Sap has his takedown stuffed

and Stiglitz counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Stiglitz.

Sap manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!
Stiglitz in a bad spot here, taking shots to the head.
Sap breaks from Stiglitz's wrist control and lands an elbow.
Stiglitz takes a big shot to the head but keeps on trying to improve his position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Warren Sap will probably get the nod.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.



Stiglitz shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Oh and he's advanced to full mount straight away.
Sap is trying desperately to improve position.
Sap is working hard here to advance position.
Stiglitz blocks Sap's feeble attempts to strike from the bottom.
Sap is looking to get to half guard.

Stiglitz is controlling this nicely and is looking to make no mistakes. Sap is trying to wiggle out of this horrible position. Sap flips to his side and attempts to get a leg in for half guard. Stiglitz anticipates the leg and manages to get behind Sap and secures both hooks! This could be bad! Stiglitz slips an arm under Sap chin and tries to position for a rear naked choke. Stiglitz has worked the choke in now and it looks tight. Stiglitz is squeezing on Sap like an anaconda would it's prey. Sap fails to tap and has fallen unconscious! We've got ourselves a winner by way of a rear naked choke!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:40 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (RNC). Hugo Stiglitz!
