And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Jason Karlsson!
The judges for this bout are Josh West, Colin Fray and Paul Gruel.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Mercury moves into the clinch.

Karlsson goes for an armbar! This could be all over! Wait, no, Mercury rolls with the submission and now he's on top in Karlsson's guard! Nice work there by Mercury!

The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Karlsson manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!
Mercury tries to reverse the position but Karlsson maintains control.

Karlsson wants to finish this one by submission but Mercury is holding onto his waist, trying to prevent any attacks from Karlsson.
Mercury slips a leg in and gets back to half guard.
Mercury is trying to stand.
Mercury wants to control but Karlsson is keeping busy.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
Karlsson seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Mercury does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

Mercury is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

OK we're going to have a standup here. Jason Karlsson hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart.

A real battle for position is taking place between these two warriors.
Mercury gets double underhooks to prevent a takedown attempt from Karlsson.
Karlsson wants to take the fight to the mat but Mercury manages to get underhooks and keep the fight in the clinch.

Mercury is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

There's a bit of a scramble here and now Karlsson is on top in guard.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Karlsson postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Mercury is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Karlsson, into his guard.

Karlsson has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Mercury can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!

Karlsson is working actively from the bottom, looking for submissions. He's escaped his hips to the side and he's going for an armbar! Mercury has his hands clasped together but Karlsson extends and breaks Mercury's desperate grasp, forcing a tap out due to armbar! Nice BJJ displayed there by Karlsson.
