PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Mark Sikkila (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and JP Takedown (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Chooooooooon! I think Sikkila might be my favorite fighter, now he's come out to Choke by Kittie. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Mark Sikkila!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 6 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, JP Takedown!
The judges for this bout are Dmitry Maklakov, Sergei Dronov and Aleksandr Martynov.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Sikkila throws a head kick that misses.

and Takedown counters with a takedown into side control! That could mean trouble for Sikkila!

Takedown moves into full mount!
Sikkila is looking to improve his position but Takedown isn't that keen on the idea.
Takedown looking to control but Sikkila is working nicely, looking to advance position himself.
Sikkila tries to reverse the position but Takedown maintains control.
Takedown pausing momentarily but resumes with a couple of decent strikes that do a bit of damage.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Takedown jumps to side control looking for an arm triangle but Sikkila manages to avoid the submission attempt.
Takedown wants to lay and pray for a moment but Sikkila keeps working.

Takedown is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Sikkila has escaped the position, nice work there.
Sikkila tries to get back to half guard but can't.

Takedown is trying to get an arm triangle but Sikkila is defending well.
Sikkila wants to control but Takedown postures up.

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.

JP Takedown has forced the referee to step in and restart the fight on the feet.

Sikkila throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Takedown tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Sikkila is in Takedown's guard.

The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!


Sikkila keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
Takedown tries to clinch but Sikkila is having none of it.

Takedown closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Sikkila's guard.

Sikkila has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Takedown can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Sikkila working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Takedown doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Takedown manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Takedown sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Sikkila's guard.
Sikkila wants to improve his position but Takedown is controlling well.

Takedown is working for a kimura but Sikkila is defending it quite comfortably.

The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.

Sikkila is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Takedown defends well.
Takedown controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.

OK we're going to have a standup here. JP Takedown hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart.

Takedown shoots in and gets a takedown into Sikkila's guard.

Sikkila looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
Takedown connects with a couple of short punches.

Sikkila working away from the bottom but not quite defensive enough there because Takedown has passed into half guard!
Sikkila tries to roll over but Takedown keeps him under control.
Takedown is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Still in half guard, Takedown seems content to control.
Takedown is keen to just control but Sikkila is a slippery customer.
Takedown uses his free foot to push down on Sikkila's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Sikkila.

Takedown is trying to take his opponent's back.
Takedown tries to stand up but he's trapped just for the moment.
Takedown wants to control the pace but Sikkila is squirming around nicely.
Sikkila is in all sorts of trouble here.

Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

JP Takedown showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. This is the final round!


The fight stays on the outside here - Sikkila looks like he's thinking about clinching though.

Sikkila has his feet on Takedown's thighs here. He's pushed Takedown off and worked for a very quick armbar from the bottom! He's flipped onto his stomach and he's cranking hard on the arm! Takedown screams in pain and taps out! This one is all over!
