Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Aj Smith (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Isaiah Ferguson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the featherweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 15 - 14 - 1, fighting out of Las Vegas, Aj Smith!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 9 - 14 - 1, fighting out of Las Vegas, Isaiah Ferguson!
The judges for this bout are Tiny Johnson, George Francis and Stewart Dunkirk.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Smith shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Smith showed some decent athleticism there.
Smith really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Smith in particular looking to stall.
Ferguson wants to improve his position but Smith is controlling well.
The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Smith lands a nice short elbow.

Ferguson on the receiving end of some nice ground and pound.

Ferguson is trying to defend against the ground and pound but Smith scores with a couple of nice shots.

Smith's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Aj Smith wasn't doing enough on the ground.
Ferguson throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Smith's waist but Smith gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Ferguson off to one side.

Smith fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Ferguson to the ground. Smith is now in Ferguson's guard.
Smith will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Smith's corner is telling him to maintain position.
Smith seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Ferguson for as long as he can get away with.
The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.

The ref stands the fighters back up because Aj Smith just wasn't active enough.
Smith uses good head movement to avoid the hook from Ferguson.

Ferguson tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.

Smith throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Ferguson tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Smith is in Ferguson's guard.
Ferguson can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Smith controls the pace.

We're going to have a standup here because Aj Smith wasn't active enough for the referee's liking.

Smith closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Ferguson's guard.
Smith slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.

Smith remains in side control and seems content to stay there. It's a versatile position from which he can work both strikes and submissions, whilst maintaining that control, so maybe he'll sit here for a while.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Ferguson wants to get back to his feet but Smith drags him back down.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Smith has knee on belly and moves into mount.

Smith jumps to side control looking for an arm triangle but Ferguson manages to avoid the submission attempt.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.

Ferguson really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Smith. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Smith is working the ground and pound from guard. He might want to try advancing position though to get more of an impact.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Smith seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.

Smith is nestled in close to Ferguson, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.

Aj Smith overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

The referee calls for the fighters to work.

Smith winds up and cracks Ferguson with a swinging punch to the side of the head.

Ferguson wants to control but Smith is keeping busy and won't allow it.
Smith uses his free foot to push down on Ferguson's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Ferguson.

Smith lands an elbow that was bordering on illegal but the referee lets it go with a warning.
Ferguson takes a big shot to the head but keeps on trying to improve his position.
Smith has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Smith cracks Ferguson with a nasty head shot there - the crowd let out an audible gasp there, as the noise reverberated around the arena.
Smith avoids the attempt from Ferguson to control.
Smith tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.

Ferguson is trying to stand up.

Smith quickly switches position and commits to an armbar! It's a big risk for Smith but it's paid off an Ferguson is forced to tap! Nice work by Smith.
