PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Rhyks Park (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Shawn Prieto (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Chooooooooon! I think Park might be my favorite fighter, now he's come out to Bring me the horizon - Pray for Plagues. We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Shawn Prieto!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Prieto blocks a head kick by Park.
Prieto misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.

Prieto shoots in and gets a takedown into Park's guard.
Park looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
Park lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Prieto!
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Park unloads with some shots from mount but Prieto bucks and avoids them well.

Park moves into side control, trying to work for a kimura. That looks painful! Will he finish!!?? No, Prieto has worked his arm free - good work by Prieto!

Park decides to stand back up. Park steps back and let's Prieto get back to his feet.

Park really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
Park is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Prieto slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.
Park looking to control the pace of the fight rather than finish it.
The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.
Prieto stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Park swivels though and keeps the full guard.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.

Prieto tries to keep at a distance but Park has taken the fight into the clinch.

Park drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Prieto gets the underhooks and prevents it.

Park breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Prieto throws a combination. Park tries to block but a couple of punches get through.

Prieto fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Park sprawls well initially but Prieto persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
This has been an exciting period of action!

Prieto seems to be working for a kimura but Park defends the submission attempt.
Prieto wants to stand but Park has hold of a leg and an arm, so he's trapped for now.
Park is trying is best to control the position here.
Prieto is taking a breather. Park says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.
Prieto's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.
The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.
Prieto seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Park does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

The ref stands the fighters back up, due to lack of action by Shawn Prieto.
Park tries to score a power double leg takedown but Prieto sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Park somewhat.
Park throws a head kick that misses.
Park tries to clinch there but Prieto circles away.
Park goes to the watering hole and comes back with a big thumbs up from the judges as he scores a three punch combo.


It looks like Shawn Prieto has been cut.

Park shoots in looking for a takedown. Prieto tries to sprawl out of it but Park keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Prieto manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Rhyks Park. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Park is breathing heavily.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Park throws a head kick that connects with a bit of head and a bit of hand.

Park looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Prieto is fending him off so far but Park persists. Nope, Prieto circles away and we're back to standing.
Park fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Rhyks Park is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Park throws a right and a left that both miss.
Park is looking to take this fight into the clinch.

Prieto moves into range and clinches up with Park.
Park misses with a shot to the kidneys.

Prieto gets double underhooks and manages to take the fight to the ground.

A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Park holds on and takes a little breather.

Prieto throws an elbow that misses. Park uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Prieto's guard. Nice move by Park!

The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.



Prieto looking to score a takedown here. Park is defending well but Prieto drives through and ends up in Park's guard.

Park is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.
Prieto is doing well to control the position and prevent Park from advancing to side control.

Prieto is looking for a sweep. Park is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.

Park is looking for the mount but instead finds himself back in full guard.
Park is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.

We're going to have a standup here because Rhyks Park wasn't active enough for the referee's liking.

Park kicks off Prieto and gets to his feet.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
No luck for Park with that takedown attempt.
Park throws a low kick but Prieto moves out of range easily.

Prieto shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Park is trying to defend but Prieto finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.
Park is looking to get full guard. It looks like he might be successful but at the last minute Prieto jumps into side control!

Prieto remains in side control and seems content to stay there. It's a versatile position from which he can work both strikes and submissions, whilst maintaining that control, so maybe he'll sit here for a while.

Prieto decides to stand back up.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Park enables Prieto to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Park manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Park bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Prieto's guard.
Rhyks Park has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Shawn Prieto is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.
Prieto pulls Park in close to his closed guard and prevents Park from doing any damage or advancing position.
