PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Masaki Kimura (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Heavy Hands (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Chooooooooon! I think Kimura might be my favorite fighter, now he's come out to Yankee Station. Buckle up people - heeeeeeeeeere we go!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Masaki Kimura!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Heavy Hands!
The judges for this bout are Summer Carpenter, Skip Squint and Damien Edna.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Kimura shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Hands as he avoids it easily.

Kimura shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Hands's guard.
Hands is looking to stand up but Kimura isn't so interested in that idea.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Hands looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
Hands is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Kimura is controlling him.
Kimura lands a nice shot whilst sitting in his opponent's guard.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.

Hands is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.
Kimura seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.
Kimura throws and elbow that misses. Hands uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Kimura's guard. Nice move by Hands!

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Hands trying to control the position from guard on top but Kimura is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Kimura will have to put a bit more behind his punches if he's going to do any damage from this position.

Hands has gone for a leg lock! Kimura slips out almost immediately though and dives into Hands's guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Kimura slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.
Hands not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.

Hands working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Kimura doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Kimura manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
Kimura wants to control from the top but Hands keeps moving.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's time! Kimura's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.


Kimura wants to clinch.
Kimura fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
Boom, another hit is landed. "You're gunna get knocked out" taunts Hands, as that shot connected.
Kimura takes one on the button.
Hands scores with a nice right hand.
Kimura shoots in but no luck this time.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Kimura fails with a takedown attempt.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Masaki Kimura. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Kimura throws a sloppy head kick and Hands moves out of range easily.

Kimura has Hands up against the cage in a clinch.
Kimura stalling in the clinch.
Hands avoiding damage as Kimura throws knees to the body.
Hands tries to break the clinch but Kimura is controlling the position.
Hands cracks Kimura with a nice body shot.
Hands wants to get back to striking at distance but Kimura won't allow it.
Hands blocks an elbow strike from Kimura.
Hands gets double underhooks to prevent a takedown attempt from Kimura.

Kimura breaks the clinch.
Hands shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Hands lands the left hand.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Hands lands a straight punch to the body, keeping Kimura at a distance.
Hands looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.
Kimura misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Hands looks to land a combination but Kimura avoids it well.
Kimura misses with a head kick.
Hands fails with an attempt to clinch.
Kimura has his takedown stuffed

and Hands moves into the clinch.
Kimura stalls.

Kimura breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Hands catches Kimura with a nice straight right. He seems pissed - ooooh, it's on now! On like donkey kong!
Hands looking to throw a kick but he's pulled out of it.
Kimura tries to clinch but Hands is having none of it.

Kimura throws a body kick despite being completely out of range
and Hands cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.

Kimura gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.
Hands is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.

Hands is fighting to break Kimura's control of his arms but Kimura is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment.
Hands wants to get up but he can't break Kimura's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Heavy Hands showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! Let's hear some noise people - this is the final round!


Kimura connects with a solid leg kick.
Kimura throws a lazy head kick
and Hands counters with a shot to the ribs. That looked like it hurt.
Kimura fails in his attempt to clinch.

Hands shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Hands showed some decent athleticism there.
Kimura keeps control of the position for the meantime.
Hands tries to stand and escape but Kimura is controlling the position.

Hands is using his reach advantage to land shots from outside his opponent's range.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Hands throws out a token jab with nothing on it.
Masaki Kimura is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Hands throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Kimura's waist but Kimura gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Hands off to one side.
Hands takes a kick to the body and keeps moving.
Hands takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Kimura darts in trying to clinch
and Hands cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Hands wants to stand and escape but Kimura is having none of it.

Kimura stands and steps away. Hands gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.
Masaki Kimura seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Hands fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
Kimura tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.

And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Masaki Kimura.
I think Kimura has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
