Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between IceMan Jones (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Stu Diat (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Diat is bouncing up and down as he enters the arena, backed by Baby Elephant Walk. IceMan Jones has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 2 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, IceMan Jones!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 6 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Stu Diat!
The judges for this bout are Colin Fray, Ryoma Takatsuka and Jeff Smith.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Diat doesn't react quick enough there as he takes a shot to the body.
Jones throws a low kick but Diat moves out of range easily.
Jones throws a lazy uppercut

and Diat counters with a single leg into guard. Jones didn't expect that.
We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.

Diat thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
Jones wants to get back to his feet but Diat is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
Jones preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.
Diat throwing strikes from guard but Jones blocks nicely.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Diat drops back looking for a leg! Jones is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Jones manages to kick Diat off! Diat jumps back into Jones's guard.
The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring.

Diat thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.

Diat drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Diat jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

Diat postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Jones is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Diat, into his guard.

Diat looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
Jones tries to stand but Diat is controlling from the bottom.
Jones knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Diat on the ground.

Diat escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Jones gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Diat has a closed guard, preventing Jones from standing up.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Diat is looking for a triangle but Jones pushes his legs off easily.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Jones decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.
Jones tries to bum rush Diat with a series of wild strikes but Diat uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
Diat avoids a punch combination nicely.

Jones gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.
Diat wants to control from the top but Jones keeps moving.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Diat passes into half guard.

Diat is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Jones sees it coming and defends easily.

Diat is working for a kimura but Jones is defending it quite comfortably.

Diat is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.

Diat seems to be working for a kimura but Jones defends the submission attempt.

Diat is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Diat is working for a submission of some sort.

Jones tries to kick Diat off but Diat keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.
Diat not landing any meaningful shots this time.

Diat is working for a kimura but Jones is defending it quite comfortably.

Diat looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
The fighters are tangled up in the ropes here. We might need a restart if the fighters can't break free themselves.

Jones is looking to escape.

Jones trying desperately to get back to his feet here but he's not having any joy at all. He's going to tire himself out if he's not careful.

Diat has hold of the far side arm. He's working for the Kimura, can Jones defend it? Diat steps over the head and cranks it - Jones is tapping out! That was textbook stuff right there - nice submission victory for Diat!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 6:30 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). Stu Diat!
After winning the bout, Stu Diat thanked all his fans and promised he'd do even better in his next fight. The crowd seemed to love his humility.
