The judges for this bout are Dillan Fox, Robert Douchet and Steve Smith.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Penn looking to take his opponent's legs away with the low kicks.
Penn getting the better of the striking in that exchange.
Thompson misses with a lunging right hand
and Penn makes him pay by landing a thudding low kick.
Penn takes a jab on the nose there. A little bit of blood seems to be coming out. Hopefully that won't affect his breathing.
Penn throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.

Thompson misses with a double jab.

Penn closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Thompson to the mat! Thompson manages to get full guard.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.

Thompson has his foot on Penn's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Penn works his way back into a safe position though.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Thompson shoots in looking for a takedown but Penn manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Thompson's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
Penn clobbers Thompson with an overhand right that has the crowd gasping. That made a horrendous noise.

Thompson fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Penn to the ground. Thompson is now in Penn's guard.

A close round but Claude Thompson will probably get the nod.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!
