Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Chad Ortiz (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Mark Hughes (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Man, I cannot wait for this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Chad Ortiz!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Mark Hughes!
The judges for this bout are , Jack Bonds and Frank Antenori.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Some wild striking there from Ortiz.

The fight moves into the clinch position.
Ortiz has had enough of the clinch but Hughes keeps him there for the moment.
Ortiz is trying to push Hughes away but Hughes has him pressed against the cage, so he's going nowhere.

Hughes turns his back and goes for a hip toss. It's a bit messy but it gets the job done and Hughes manages to end up in side control.
Ortiz can't do much from the bottom here.
Hughes staying calm.
Ortiz is looking for a sweep.
Ortiz is being controlled here.
Hughes really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Ortiz. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Hughes gets the body lock takedown. After a quick scramble, Ortiz regains guard.
Hughes is working Ortiz over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.
Ortiz wants to stand up but Hughes is controlling him.

Hughes seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.
Hughes is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.

Hughes closes the distance and clinches.
Hughes keeps control of Ortiz as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks.
Hughes fails to land with a short punch on the inside.
Ortiz tries to break free but Hughes pushes him back against the cage.

Hughes has clasped his hands together around Ortiz's back... aaand, he's got a takedown into side control. Nicely done.
Ortiz is pushing Hughes's head away, looking to escape. Hughes manages to hold on to the position though.
Ortiz tries to bench press Hughes off him but Hughes keeps the position.
Hughes cracks Ortiz with an elbow. That is naaassty.
Ortiz is moving his hips around well on the bottom and has managed to get back to half guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Ortiz has a hand on Hughes's thigh, trying to get back to full guard. Hughes takes advantage of the position though and mounts him!
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

and Hughes counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Ortiz's guard now.
Hughes connects with a couple of short punches.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of Chad Ortiz.

Hughes takes advantage of the dominant position to land a couple of big hammer fists.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Ortiz is trying to maintain the position but Hughes is very close to passing his half guard.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Hughes is taking a breather. Ortiz says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.
Hughes is scoring with some nice ground and pound from the dominant position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Mark Hughes showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. This is the final round!


Ortiz stooping low to avoid any incoming strikes and then lunges in with an uppercut come cross that lands flush.
Hughes throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Ortiz.
Good work by Ortiz as he checks the leg kick.

Hughes feints and as Ortiz raises his hands in defense, Hughes changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
Hughes uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Ortiz.
Ortiz throws a low kick, looking for Hughes's leg but Hughes calmly moves out of range.
Ortiz shoots for a takedown but Hughes saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
Hughes tries to score with an inside leg kick but telegraphs it and Ortiz is able to avoid easily.

Ortiz pushes Hughes away and creates a bit of space to escape. He's almost out here... but no, Hughes gets a good hold of his legs and remains firmly in side control.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

A bit of a lull in the action. I'm sure it will pick up again soon... even if the ref has to physically pick them up and put them back on their feet.

The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Hughes wants to free his trapped foot but Ortiz is holding on for dear life with his legs.
