Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 25 - 14 - 2, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Cubensis Azul!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Ryan McKinnon!
The judges for this bout are Steve Smith, Trevor Gratis and Yves DeLean.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Azul scores with a hook.

Excellent takedown into side control there by McKinnon.
You can see the frustration on Azul's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
McKinnon tries to stand but Azul is controlling his head.

The ref stands the fighters back up because Cubensis Azul just wasn't active enough.

McKinnon moves out of range of the body kick.
Azul wants to land a leg kick but McKinnon is out of range.

McKinnon tries to clinch but fails miserably
and Azul counters with a lovely shot to the body.
The fight stays on the outside here - McKinnon looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
McKinnon is looking to clinch but Azul is avoiding it.

McKinnon throws a head kick that misses.

McKinnon gets caught flat footed, as Azul shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.

McKinnon utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
McKinnon is looking to stand back up... there's a bit of a scramble and Azul dives into side control.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Azul seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down McKinnon for as long as he can get away with.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Azul misses with a strike but at least he's keeping busy, looking to cause some damage - that will still help him when it comes to the judges scorecards.

McKinnon is trying to buck Azul off.
Azul in side control lands a nice looking series of punches and elbows.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if McKinnon can do anything to dispel that myth.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
McKinnon takes a big shot right to the temple there but he's taken it well.
Azul is putting a hurting on McKinnon here, landing some big shots from side control.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.

McKinnon gets the takedown into side control.
Azul tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but McKinnon wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.
Azul holds on to McKinnon's head and controls the position momentarily.
Azul has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Azul manages to work his way to half guard, despite McKinnon's best efforts.
Azul is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of McKinnon's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take McKinnon's back!

Azul is striking from the back but McKinnon escapes and manages to recover to half guard.
Azul lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears.
McKinnon looks like he's trying to stand up.
Azul seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime.
Azul throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.

Azul is trying to control. McKinnon wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.
McKinnon keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Azul landing with strikes to the body and head, softening up his opponent.
Azul is nestled in close to McKinnon, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

McKinnon really wants to buck Azul off and get back to his feet.

A big strike lands for Azul! That's really hurt McKinnon and he's turned his back - Azul keeps firing away and the ref dives in to stop the fight! Azul jumps to his feet to celebrate the victory!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:35 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Cubensis Azul!
Cubensis Azul was full of energy after the big win and talked about how he thinks he can do big things in this sport. The crowd were appreciative of his determination to succeed.
