PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between John Chance (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Leighton Davis (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 4 - 0, fighting out of New York, John Chance!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Leighton Davis!
The judges for this bout are Columbo Gatti, Dean Styles and Joseph Jones.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Davis doesn't succeed with the takedown

and Chance counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Chance.
Chance has Davis pressed against the cage, preventing Davis from circling away and getting back to striking at range.
Davis is trying to pull guard but Chance has him pressed against the cage.

Chance drags the fight down to the ground.
The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.
Davis prevents Chance from getting back to his feet.

Chance is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Davis defends well.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Chance looking for a sweep. Not yet Chance, not yet.
Chance knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Davis on the ground.
Davis controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.

Chance wants to get back to his feet but he's too absorbed in his own little project and Davis manages to pass to side control.

Chance could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.

Chance is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.

Chance is desperately trying to improve his position but Davis has a good base and remains in mount.

Davis punching from mount but Chance doing a good job of avoiding damage.
Davis thuds his fist into the canvas! Oooouch!

Davis prevents Chance from getting the reversal.
Chance wants to hold on but Davis pushes him away.
Davis looking to ground and pound but Chance is blocking nicely.

Poor strikes thrown by Davis there. More accuracy and less frantic strikes would help!
Chance sneaks a leg under to get to half guard.
Chance looks like he's trying to stand up.

Davis stands up from half guard... He's had enough of that ground malarky for the time being.
Davis tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Chance paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Davis shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Chance defends it nicely.
John Chance has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Leighton Davis.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Davis slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.

Davis controls Chance momentarily but Chance frees himself.

Davis is doing well to control the posture of his opponent and prevent any damage.
Chance controls from within his opponent's guard.

Chance has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Davis is proving hard to escape from.

A close second round but Leighton Davis will probably get the nod - 10:9.

Chance drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Davis gets the underhooks and prevents it.

Davis has managed to clinch.
Davis tries to stall but Chance uses the opportunity to gain a better position.
Davis tries to circle away but Chance has him pinned against the cage.

Chance's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Davis tries for a takedown but Chance circles away easily
and Chance counters with an outside leg kick.

Chance misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.

and Chance counters with a takedown into side control! That could mean trouble for Davis!
Davis takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Chance decides to take the fight back to the feet.
Davis misses with a low kick.
Chance shoots for a takedown but Davis saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for John Chance. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Chance moves to clinch but Davis breaks away
letting Davis counter with a right hand.
Davis is looking to land body kicks.
Davis throws a leg kick but Chance sees it coming and checks it nicely.
Davis tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.

Chance doesn't react quick enough there as he takes a shot to the body.
Davis shoots in looking for a takedown but Chance manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Davis's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.

Davis is pushing Chance up against the cage, for a bit of lean and pray action. Action being used the in the loosest possible sense of the word.

Davis lands a right hand that snaps the head of Chance backwards.
Davis looks like he'd prefer to be striking at range right now.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Chance tries to break free but Davis pushes him back against the cage.

John Chance has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Leighton Davis is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Chance tries to land a knee to the body but he is off balance and Davis avoids it.

And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to John Chance.
I think Davis has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
