Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Mauricio Cabral (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Richard Lapointe (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Lapointe has chosen Clint Eastwood as his entrance music. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Mauricio Cabral!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 3 - 0, fighting out of London, Richard Lapointe!
The judges for this bout are Emerson Jorge, Edson Gomes and Daniel Cesar.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Lapointe stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Lapointe wants it to stay on the feet.
Cabral moves forwards but Lapointe connects with a nice, crisp jab.

Lapointe darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.
Cabral is controlling Lapointe's trapped leg to prevent Lapointe from advancing to side control.
Lapointe tries to pass to full mount but Cabral defends it.
Cabral is trying to maintain the position but Lapointe is very close to passing his half guard.
Lapointe seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Cabral does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. Richard Lapointe wasn't active enough on the ground.
Lapointe shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Cabral defends it nicely.
Lapointe misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Cabral moves to clinch but Lapointe breaks away

and Lapointe counters with a takedown into side control.
Cabral is looking for a sweep.

Lapointe goes for an armbar! This could be all over! Wait, no, Cabral rolls with the submission and now he's on top in Lapointe's guard! Nice work there by Cabral!

Cabral controlling from the top position.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Cabral wants to control from the top but Lapointe keeps moving.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

We're going to have a standup here because Mauricio Cabral wasn't active enough for the referee's liking.
Cabral tries to score with a leg kick but it misses it's target.
Cabral takes a big uppercut there. He seems a bit wobbly but no, he's OK.
Cabral shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Lapointe but Lapointe pushes him off and we're back to square one.

Lapointe closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Cabral's guard.
Lapointe really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Cabral. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Cabral is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
Lapointe wants to pass the guard but Cabral is keeping the position.
Lapointe postures up.
Lapointe trying to move into half guard but instead Cabral has managed to sweep!
Lapointe is trying to keep Cabral in close.
Cabral is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Cabral throws a solid leg kick but Lapointe takes the impact on his shin and smiles at Cabral.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Lapointe shoots in looking for a takedown but Cabral manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Lapointe's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
Cabral falls off balance throwing a combination
and Lapointe counters with a stiff right hand.
Cabral throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.

Lapointe throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Cabral was covering up waiting for the punch and Lapointe finishes the takedown easily into guard.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Lapointe wants to control from the top but Cabral keeps moving.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Cabral being controlled here, momentarily.
Cabral is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Lapointe is controlling him.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Richard Lapointe dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Cabral closes the distance and clinches up with Lapointe, looking for a takedown. Cabral pushes Lapointe against the cage but Lapointe circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Lapointe shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Cabral pinned against the cage. Cabral gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Cabral tries to score a power double leg takedown but Lapointe sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Cabral somewhat.
Nice takedown defense from Lapointe. No joy for Cabral on that attempt.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Mauricio Cabral. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Cabral fails to land the takedown.

Lapointe fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Cabral to the ground. Lapointe is now in Cabral's guard.
Lapointe wanted to stand there but Cabral had control of the position.
Lapointe stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Cabral swivels though and keeps the full guard.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Cabral seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now.
Cabral can't keep his opponent in guard - Lapointe advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.
Cabral is holding on to half guard well.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Lapointe wants to pass the guard but Cabral is defending well.
Cabral is positioning himself well to prevent Lapointe advancing to mount.
Lapointe looking to pass the half guard. Not this time.

Lapointe is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Cabral defends it well.
Cabral is staying active underneath Lapointe, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
Cabral is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Lapointe's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Lapointe's back!

Cabral scores with punches and elbows.
Lapointe just trying to survive but Cabral is wriggling into a better position, looking to finish.
Richard Lapointe has got the better of the ground game so far.

Cabral working for a RNC but it's not happening just yet.

Cabral looking to break Lapointe's wrist control so he can sink in the choke. Lapointe remaining controlled and patient though - he really has to keep calm otherwise Cabral will wrap this one up with the rear naked choke!
Cabral wants to control but Lapointe manages to buck him off and is now in Cabral's guard! Nice work there by Lapointe!
Lapointe looking to sit in guard and control but Cabral gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.
Cabral will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
Lapointe is adopting a defensive guard.

Cabral stands up from guard. Let's bang!
Cabral tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Lapointe manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
Cabral shoots in but doesn't get the takedown

and Lapointe counters into the clinch. Nicely done.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Lapointe pulls Cabral into guard.
Lapointe wants to sweep but no luck.
Lapointe wants to get back to his feet but Cabral is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close second round but I would say that Mauricio Cabral will probably get the nod.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! This is the final round!


Cabral tries to clinch but Lapointe is having none of it.

Lapointe shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.
Cabral controls Lapointe momentarily but Lapointe frees himself.

Cabral bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Lapointe's guard.

Cabral postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Cabral wants to pass the guard but Lapointe is keeping the position.
Lapointe pulls Cabral in close to his closed guard and prevents Cabral from doing any damage or advancing position.
Lapointe keeping moving, preventing Cabral from controlling successfully.
Lapointe wants to stand but Cabral is controlling the position.

The ref stands the fighters back up because Mauricio Cabral just wasn't active enough.

and Lapointe counters with a nice uppercut.
Cabral shoots in but Lapointe avoids the takedown attempt easily.
Lapointe swats away the attempt to clinch by Cabral.

Lapointe gets caught flat footed, as Cabral shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.

Cabral gets to his feet. Lapointe looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Lapointe shoots in looking for a takedown. Cabral tries to sprawl out of it but Lapointe keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Cabral manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Cabral shoots in for a double leg but Lapointe sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Mauricio Cabral. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Cabral fails to land with a series of punches.

Lapointe closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Cabral to the mat! Cabral manages to get full guard.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Lapointe wants to stand and escape but instead Cabral has hit a sweep and he's now on top in guard.
Cabral stands and throws Lapointe's legs to the side, diving into side control.
Lapointe wants to control but Cabral postures up.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Lapointe seems a little lost for a moment, as Cabral dominates the positioning.

And that's the end of the fight!
Mauricio Cabral showed his dominance in that final round.
I think Cabral has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
