PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Esa Tikkanen (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Brett Riverboat (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Tikkanen comes to the cage accompanied by Bring The Pain. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 17 - 3 - 1, fighting out of Los Angeles, Esa Tikkanen!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 14 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Brett Riverboat!
The judges for this bout are Fedor Mirinova, Sergei Dronov and Vladimir Khabensky.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Tikkanen on the wrong end of a vicious looking body shot.
Tikkanen shoots for a takedown but Riverboat saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
Riverboat throws a shot from downtown. Tikkanen moves away and avoids it.
Riverboat scores with a punch to the gut of his opponent.
Tikkanen is moving around nicely and scores here with a single head shot.

Tikkanen feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
Riverboat is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Tikkanen throws an elbow that misses. Riverboat uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Tikkanen's guard. Nice move by Riverboat!

Tikkanen is active off his back here, looking for submissions.

Tikkanen had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Riverboat defends it easily.

Riverboat got a little sloppy there for a moment and Tikkanen has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Riverboat has managed to get both his arms back between Tikkanen's legs - danger averted.
Riverboat must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Tikkanen has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Riverboat can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Riverboat slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.
Tikkanen tries to improve position but can't.

A bit of a lull in the action. I'm sure it will pick up again soon... even if the ref has to physically pick them up and put them back on their feet.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Tikkanen wants to control but Riverboat postures up.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Tikkanen takes a step towards his opponent and connects with a left hand, before circling away.
Riverboat tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Tikkanen manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Tikkanen scores with a crisp jab that stopped Riverboat in his tracks.
Riverboat leaves Tikkanen with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
The fighters circling - Tikkanen throws out the jab but it was never going to land.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Riverboat gets cracked there but stands up to it.
Tikkanen throws a jab when Riverboat was well out of range.
Tikkanen keeps his opponent at a distance with a nice jab.
Tikkanen moves out of range of the strikes.

Riverboat fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Tikkanen manages to avoid it.

Tikkanen shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Riverboat pinned against the cage. Riverboat gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.

Riverboat looks to score with a jab to the body but Tikkanen is just out of range.
Tikkanen tries to work over Riverboat's front leg with a kick but Riverboat checks it.
Brett Riverboat is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.

Tikkanen moves out of range of the strikes.
The crowd cheers as Riverboat lands an impressive looking overhand right. Tikkanen doesn't seem phased though.


It looks like Esa Tikkanen has been cut.
Riverboat lands a kick to the ribs of his opponent. Nice work there - in and out in a flash.
Tikkanen avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Riverboat throws a combination that misses

so Tikkanen counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.

It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.
Riverboat is sneaking out the side here. He's bucked Tikkanen off and has taken his back!
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Tikkanen tries to escape but Riverboat has the hooks in and won't let him break free.

Tikkanen closes the distance and clinches up with Riverboat, looking for a takedown. Tikkanen pushes Riverboat against the cage but Riverboat circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.

Riverboat sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Tikkanen's guard.
Esa Tikkanen overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Tikkanen is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Riverboat pulls his head out easily.

Tikkanen is looking for a sweep. Riverboat is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Tikkanen wants to control but Riverboat is keeping busy and won't allow it.
Tikkanen is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Riverboat is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.
Tikkanen is in a bad position, trying to hold on for dear life but he is really struggling to maintain any sort of control.
Riverboat wants to lay and pray for a moment but Tikkanen keeps working.

and Riverboat counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.

Esa Tikkanen showed his dominance in that final round.
Well Tikkanen has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
