The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Strong gets a clinch.

Strong has Monteforte pressed up against the cage. He's trying to work for a single leg takedown. Strong pulls back from the cage and twists to the side, sending Monteforte tumbling to the mat - Strong dives into Monteforte's guard.
We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.

Strong wants to stand and escape but instead Monteforte has hit a sweep and he's now on top in guard.

Strong is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Monteforte defends well.

Strong is looking to stand back up... there's a bit of a scramble and Monteforte dives into side control.

Monteforte tries to pass the half guard into mount. Strong knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.
Strong is controlling Monteforte's trapped leg to prevent Monteforte from advancing to side control.
Strong is trying to stand back up but Monteforte is controlling him

Monteforte is trying to control the action in half guard but Strong is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.

Monteforte will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.

Strong misses with a takedown attempt - Monteforte sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.

Monteforte throws a right hand that Strong ducks under and follows up with a left that Strong also avoids with ease.

and Monteforte counters with a series of strikes. Strong will be more careful next time no doubt.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Monteforte fakes and then throws a beautiful body shot. Strong looks a bit winded and takes a step backwards to take a breath.
Monteforte defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Strong.
Monteforte throws a right and a left that Strong avoids nicely.

Monteforte drops Strong with a beautiful combination! Strong stares up at his opponent, who ushers him back to his feet - Monteforte is looking for the KO!

Strong gets caught by a brutal right hook which buckles his knees! Strong tries to backpedal with his spaghettilegs but Monteforte is headhunting and goes for the kill. A jab and a right hook connect and Strong buckles badly as his eyes roll back. The referee steps in and saves Strong!! Strong is complaining but he was clearly out on his feet. Monteforte throws his mouthpiece into the crowd. Mmmm spit-tastic.
