The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Macdonald looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
Sonnen has taken the fight to the clinch.
Sonnen breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Sonnen throws a wild combination but nothing lands.
Sonnen throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Macdonald tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Sonnen is in Macdonald's guard.
If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.
Sonnen stops Macdonald from standing up.
Macdonald can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Sonnen controls the pace.
Sonnen sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Macdonald's guard.

Sonnen has control of Macdonald's right arm, working for a kimura. It's a bit of a token attempt though and Macdonald regains control of the situation pretty easily.

Sonnen's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.

We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Macdonald can do anything to dispel that myth.

Sonnen seems to be looking for submissions.
Sonnen stands up and beckons Macdonald to join him on the feet.

Macdonald gets caught flat footed, as Sonnen shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.
