PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Daniel Goncalves (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Max Kos (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). On his way into the cage it seems that Daniel Goncalves has been attacked by a crazed fan! It looks like it might have been the just bleed guy! Luckily Daniel Goncalves seems to be OK! I thought that lunatic was in prison!?

Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 8 - 8 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Daniel Goncalves!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Max Kos!
The judges for this bout are Matheus Silva, Alexandre Firmino and Thiago Cunha.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Kos scores with a decent looking hook.

Goncalves gets a takedown into half guard.
Goncalves looking to pass the half guard. Not this time.
Goncalves not throwing his punches with enough precision this time.
Goncalves not landing any meaningful shots this time.
Goncalves seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Kos does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

Kos is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Goncalves looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Kos with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.
Goncalves tries to pass the half guard into mount. Kos knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Goncalves takes a jab on the nose. He smiles like he loves it and keeps coming.

Kos lands a nice hook to Goncalves's body. Goncalves takes it in his stride and looks to land his own strikes.
Kos slaps away a takedown attempt from Goncalves, before circling back to the center of the mat.

Goncalves shoots in for a takedown and gets it.
Goncalves prevents Kos from improving his position.
Goncalves is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Kos is looking for a sweep. Goncalves is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Goncalves is trying to control. Kos wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.

Kos stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Kos wants it to stay on the feet.

Goncalves throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Kos tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Goncalves is in Kos's guard.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Kos really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Goncalves. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Goncalves throws a head kick but Kos moves out of range.

Kos scores with a punch to the gut of his opponent.
Kos jabs at Goncalves's body.
Kos fakes low and throws an overhand right that catches Goncalves on the side of the head.
The fighters circle momentarily. Kos darts into range and connects with a nice straight punch.
Goncalves shoots in and drives through. Kos sprawls well.
Goncalves fails in his attempt to clinch.
Kos throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Goncalves.
Max Kos seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Goncalves throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Kos's waist but Kos gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Goncalves off to one side.
A telegraphed right hand from Goncalves misses the target.
Kos scores with a nice looking left hook and follows it up with an uppercut!
Kos lands a jab-cross combination.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Kos throws a combination. Goncalves tries to block but a couple of punches get through.

A punch lands to the side of Goncalves 's head but he takes it in his stride.

Goncalves fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Kos avoids it really well and circles away.

Kos fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.

Goncalves rushes Kos and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.

Kos lunges in with an uppercut that skims his opponent's chin.

Goncalves has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Kos avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.

The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Goncalves is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Kos defends well.
Goncalves is doing well to control the posture of his opponent and prevent any damage.

Goncalves avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.

Max Kos showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

Kos shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Goncalves as he jumps to the side.
Kos throws a jab to the body, straight down the pipe. Boom. That sent Goncalves stumbling backwards but he manages to regain his composure quickly.
Goncalves is looking to clinch but Kos is avoiding it.
Max Kos seems to be getting the better of the standup.
Kos jabs at Goncalves's body.
Kos avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Kos swats away the attempt to clinch by Goncalves.
Goncalves slips a jab and a cross from Kos.
Goncalves tries to clinch but Kos moves out of range.
Kos lands a jab to the nose.
Goncalves fails with an attempt to clinch.

Goncalves bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
Goncalves wants to control but Kos is keeping him busy.

Goncalves wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Kos, who protects the arm well.

Goncalves decides to stand up, so the ref orders Kos to his feet.

Kos works his jab well there, keeping his opponent at a distance.
Daniel Goncalves is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

Goncalves shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Kos's guard.
Kos keeping moving, preventing Goncalves from controlling successfully.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Goncalves advances nicely into full mount.
Goncalves fails to advance to Kos's back.
Goncalves trying to control but he's not successful this time.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Daniel Goncalves.
I think Goncalves has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
