PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Tony Kazarian (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Marcel Cerdan (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Kazarian's entrance music is Limp Bizkit - My Way. A fine choice. Cerdan has chosen French National Anthem as his entrance music. Marcel Cerdan told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 23 - 8 - 1, fighting out of Hilo, Tony Kazarian!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 24 - 13 - 2, fighting out of New York, Marcel Cerdan!
The judges for this bout are Shigeki Fujiwara, Taro Takaoka and Ren Mimura.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Kazarian shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Cerdan pinned against the cage. Cerdan gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Cerdan connects with a lovely right hand, straight down the pipe.
Kazarian takes a jab on the nose. He smiles like he loves it and keeps coming.
Kazarian uses good head movement to avoid the hook from Cerdan.
Cerdan scores with a punch to the gut of his opponent.
A slow jab from Kazarian misses its intended target.

Cerdan moves into the clinch.
Kazarian has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Cerdan is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.
Cerdan lands a left hand.
Kazarian blocks a couple of punches on the inside.
Cerdan lands a short shot on the inside that snaps the head of Kazarian backwards.
Cerdan throws a head punch that misses.

Kazarian decides to pull guard.
Cerdan must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Cerdan wants to stand and escape but instead Kazarian has hit a sweep and he's now on top in guard.

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Kazarian accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

Kazarian wants to lay and pray for a moment but Cerdan keeps working.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


Cerdan throws a combination that misses
and Kazarian counters with a straight right hand.
Cerdan wants to clinch up but Kazarian keeps it at a distance.
Horrible takedown by Kazarian or perhaps it was just good defense by Cerdan which made him look bad.
Cerdan pushing out the jab but it's not landing.
Marcel Cerdan seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Cerdan clobbers Kazarian with an overhand right that has the crowd gasping. That made a horrendous noise.
A looping hook to the body misses from Kazarian. Cerdan does a little dance to reset his feet.

Kazarian swats away the attempt to clinch by Cerdan.
Cerdan tries to clinch but Kazarian is having none of it.
Kazarian tries to score a power double leg takedown but Cerdan sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Kazarian somewhat.

Cerdan might want to mix his strikes up a bit more. He's just going for head shots at the moment and that can become a bit predictable.

Marcel Cerdan comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Kazarian has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
