The judges for this bout are Edson Gomes, Emerson Jorge and Seu Braga.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Alves tries for a takedown but Monteiro sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
Alves throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Monteiro's waist but Monteiro gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Alves off to one side.
Alves shoots in but Monteiro avoids the takedown attempt easily.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Milton Alves. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Monteiro is looking to clinch.
Monteiro throws a quick head kick that skims the top of Alves's head.
Monteiro doesn't manage to clinch there - Alves circles away.
Alves shoots in for a takedown but Monteiro shows good takedown defense.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Alves forces Monteiro back against the cage and clinches.
Oh Alves is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!
Monteiro escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Alves seems to have got his legs back now.
Alves fails with the takedown.
Alves swats away the attempt to clinch by Monteiro.
Monteiro moves into the clinch successfully.

Monteiro is looking to break free of the clinch but Alves has double underhooks.
Alves manages to pull guard.
Monteiro tries to free his leg and advance position but Alves is retaining full guard.
Alves is trying to hold Monteiro in close to prevent damage but Monteiro has managed to pass into half guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Monteiro in particular looking to stall.
Alves misses with some strikes from the bottom.
Monteiro is trying to get back to his feet now but his leg is trapped.
Monteiro performing his best blanket impression for a moment.

Monteiro is thwarting Alves's attempts to control the position.
Monteiro decides he's had enough of the ground and stands up.

Monteiro throws a series of strikes that have Alves backpedaling.
Monteiro dances in quickly and lands a nice inside leg kick on Alves. That did some damage!
Monteiro lands a jab followed by a nice looking cross.
Monteiro wants to clinch up but Alves keeps it at a distance.
Alves looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.
Monteiro is rocked!
Alves scores with a couple of good hammerfists.
Monteiro is still in real trouble! Can Alves finish him?
Alves is sitting in half guard. He's postured up and lands a nice elbow. Oh, Monteiro is hurt! He's hurt bad - Alves fires away with more strikes and the referee jumps in to save Monteiro from any more punishment! Congratulations to Alves! Great finish!
