Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Kalei Malu!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, David Wong!
The judges for this bout are Sosuke Kotani, Hirohito Nitta and Yasuomi Hirokawa.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Wong shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Malu sprawls well. Malu wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Wong gets slowly back to his feet.

Wong closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Malu did well to prevent Wong getting side control.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.
Wong controlling the action here.
Wong really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Malu. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Malu looking for submissions from an awkward position here.

Malu actively working from the bottom here.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Malu makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Malu.
Wong is looking to stand up but Malu won't let him.

Malu is looking for a triangle but Wong pushes his legs off easily.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Wong not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.

Malu escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Wong gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Wong seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.

OK we're going to have a standup here. David Wong hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart.
Wong connects with a slap. Keep your fist closed son.

Wong moves into range and clinches up with Malu.

Wong has Malu pressed up against the cage. He's trying to work for a single leg takedown. Wong pulls back from the cage and twists to the side, sending Malu tumbling to the mat - Wong dives into Malu's guard.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Wong throws a big elbow that misses.

Wong looking to improve position, pressing down on Malu's thigh with his hand. Malu seems to be working to lock up a guilotine though... is Wong paying attention? Apparently not! He's locked it up tight! Wong's face has turned purple! Will he tap? Will he! YES! He's tapped! Malu picked his opening and made it count! Great finish!
