PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Sean Sean (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jamax Flame (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Sean Sean!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Jamax Flame!
The judges for this bout are James Glass, Daniel Bishop and Phil Schofield.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Flame drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.
Flame controlling from the top position.
Flame trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
Flame stopping the sweep attempt from Sean.
Sean looking to control.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Jamax Flame was stalling too much, according to the referee.

Flame shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Sean is trying to defend but Flame finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.
Flame is controlling the pace.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Sean trying to control but Flame postures up.
Flame controlling the action here.
Sean has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Flame is working away from the top position though.
Flame performing his best blanket impression for a moment.

The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. Jamax Flame wasn't active enough on the ground.
Sean fails with a takedown attempt.
Sean wants to clinch up but Flame keeps it at a distance.
Sean doesn't succeed with the takedown

and Flame counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Flame.
Sean managing to block the knees to the body from Flame.

Flame wants the takedown. Sean is fighting it off but Flame persists and manages to bring the fight to the ground, ending up in Sean's guard against the cage.
Flame wants to get up but he can't break Sean's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Flame controlling from the top position.
Flame's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.

OK we're going to have a standup here. Jamax Flame hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart.
Sean tries for a takedown but Flame sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Sean Sean. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Sean shoots in but doesn't get the takedown

and Flame counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.
Sean is breathing heavily.
Flame is taking a breather. Sean says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.

Flame is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Sean has managed to free his arm - good work.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Flame works his way into full mount!
Flame controlling the position easily from mount.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Flame manages to capitalize on a mistake by Sean to take his back!
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.



Excellent takedown into side control there by Flame.
Flame is maintaining the dominant position - no doubt Sean will start to get frustrated soon if he's not already.
Sean is trying to get back to half guard.
Sean takes an elbow right on the bridge of the nose and winces in pain.
Flame tries to stand but Sean is controlling his head.
Sean tries to bench press Flame off him but Flame keeps the position.

Sean is working hard to escape and get back to his feet. After a battle for position, Flame asserts his dominance and retains side control.

Flame wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Sean, who protects the arm well.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Flame trying to control the position but Sean is working away.
Flame working the body and head with strikes.
Flame working the ground and pound.
Sean prevents Flame from improving position.

Sean tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Flame wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.
Flame is staying tight to Sean's torso, preventing him from escaping.

Sean is working hard to escape and get back to his feet. After a battle for position, Flame asserts his dominance and retains side control.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Flame has knee on belly and now moves to full mount! Trouble for Sean!

Flame scoring with strikes but Sean is staying in there.
Sean tries to reverse the position but Flame maintains control.
Flame lands with some strikes.
Flame tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.
Flame pausing momentarily but resumes with a couple of decent strikes that do a bit of damage.
Flame controlling from mount.
Flame scoring with some good ground and pound from mount here. Will he manage to finish Sean?
Jamax Flame has got the better of the ground game so far.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Flame scores with a couple of good head shots there.
Flame controlling the pace for now.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jamax Flame showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. This is the final round!


A combination from Flame does no damage.

Flame clinches.
Sean on the defensive, avoiding the knees to the body.
Flame tries a knee to the head but he's missed.

Flame gets control of Sean's arms and successfully pulls guard. Flame will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back.
Flame keeping moving, preventing Sean from controlling successfully.
Flame pulls Sean in to control the position.
Sean wants to control from the top but Flame keeps moving.
Flame can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Sean controls the pace.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of Sean Sean.
Sean doesn't succeed with the takedown

and Flame holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch.

Flame has double underhooks and is working for a body lock takedown. He's got it. The fighters land in half guard but Sean regains guard immediately.
Flame trying to stand up but can't free himself from Sean's guard.

Flame has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Flame is looking to stand up but Sean won't let him.
Sean not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Flame is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
Sean shoots in looking for a takedown but Flame manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Sean's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Flame takes the fight into the clinch.
Flame makes some space for himself and lands an uppercut.
Flame is looking to score with knees to the body. Maybe he'll change it up and go body then head. Sean is defending well for now.
Sean jumps guard but Flame stands there with Sean around his waist. Sean gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Sean Sean. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Sean tries to circle away but Flame has him pinned against the cage.
Sean tries to pull guard but Flame won't allow it.

Flame gets control of Sean's arms and successfully pulls guard. Flame will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Flame is pulling down on Sean's head. It's preventing any offense from Sean, at least for the moment.

Flame looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
Sean wants to control from the top but Flame keeps moving.

Flame throwing his legs up looking for a triangle.
Sean stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Flame swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Flame looking for a sweep. Not yet Flame, not yet.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Flame is on top in guard.
Flame wants to stand but Sean is controlling his posture from full guard.

Flame lands a nice shot whilst sitting in his opponent's guard.
Sean Sean has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Jamax Flame is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.
Flame must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Jamax Flame comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Flame has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
