Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Steve Orvel!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Antony Smith!
The judges for this bout are Paulo Santos, Edson Gomes and Daniel Cesar.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Orvel uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Smith.
Smith ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Orvel moves away.
Smith is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
Smith throws a good cross that connects.

Orvel shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Smith manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.
The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.

Orvel drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Smith dives on top into guard.

Smith got a little sloppy there for a moment and Orvel has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Smith has managed to get both his arms back between Orvel's legs - danger averted.
This has been an exciting period of action!

Orvel had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Smith defends it easily.

Smith might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Orvel haven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.
Smith throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Orvel works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Orvel is looking for a triangle but Smith pushes his legs off easily.
Smith stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Orvel swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Smith slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.
Orvel is not content to let Smith control the position.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
Orvel gets back to half guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Orvel is not content to let Smith control the position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Steve Orvel dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Smith will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.

Orvel throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Smith tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Orvel is in Smith's guard.

Orvel has gone for a leg lock! Smith slips out almost immediately though and dives into Orvel's guard.

Smith avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
Smith passes Orvel's left leg - he's now in half guard.
Smith is trying to control the action in half guard but Orvel is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.
Smith wants to stand up but Orvel is controlling the position.
Smith is looking to take a break and control but Orvel is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Smith misses with a head shot. Orvel uses the momentum to regain guard.
Smith must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Orvel avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.
This has been an exciting period of action!

Orvel has thrown up a leg looking for a triangle. Smith doesn't defend quickly enough and Orvel has managed to lock this one up! Can Smith escape?! NO! He's tapping out! Damn, that was a quick submission - congrats to Orvel on a fantastic submission victory.
