Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Gaia Ky (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Ratt Hughes (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Ky comes to the cage accompanied by TIAMAT - Gaia. Hughes has chosen Country boy can survive as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. Well, the cameraman is lingering on a pretty young lady for a bit too long there. Keep your eyes on the prize buddy or you'll miss the fighter intros!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the welterweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 33 - 16 - 3, fighting out of Los Angeles, Gaia Ky!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 36 - 17 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Ratt Hughes!
The judges for this bout are Micheangelo Fripello, Chris Saunders and Jeff Smith.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Hughes tries to move into range but Ky moves to the side and lands with a nice right hand.
Hughes avoids a punch combination nicely.
Ky throws out a loose jab but Hughes uses good head movement to avoid it.
Hughes throws a hook but Ky blocks it.
Hughes has his takedown stuffed
and he gets countered with a snapping leg kick.
Ky misses with a body shot.
Ky misses the shot to the body.
Hughes keeping his hands up high there, blocking the jab from Ky.
Ky throws a body punch but Hughes moves out of range.
A lazy left from Hughes finds it's target.
Ky lands with a nice body kick.
Ky misses with a straight right.
Ky misses with a wild combination.
Hughes wants to slow Ky down by chopping away at his legs.

Ky closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.
Hughes is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.

Ky stands and throws Hughes's legs to the side, diving into side control.

You can see the frustration on Hughes's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Ky wants to stand but Hughes is controlling his arm.

Hughes is trying to control Ky's posture but Ky avoids it.
Hughes tries to get back to half guard but can't.
Ky in side control, just content to control the action for now.
Hughes tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Ky wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Gaia Ky will probably get the nod.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!


Hughes throws a couple of head shots and lands with the final one - a decent hook, which struck Ky on the side of the head.
Ky uses good head movement to avoid the hook from Hughes.

Ky rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Hughes moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
Nice defenses there by Hughes.
Ky slips under a jab.
Ky throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.

Ky's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Ky lands with a cross to side of his opponent's head.
Hughes lands a jab to the head.

Ky gets a double leg takedown into Hughes's guard.
Ky tries to free his leg and advance position but Hughes is retaining full guard.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Ky is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Hughes wants to improve his position but instead Ky has moved into half guard.

Ky passes the half guard and he's now in mount! Big trouble for Hughes!

Ky avoids the attempt from Hughes to control.
Ky trying to control but Hughes is having none of it.
Hughes keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.
Hughes tries to lock up and control but Ky gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.

Hughes might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Ky haven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.

Hughes is looking for a sweep. Ky is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.

That was a close second round but I would say that Gaia Ky will probably get the nod.

Hughes walks straight into an uppercut. Luckily it didn't land flush.
Horrible takedown by Hughes or perhaps it was just good defense by Ky which made him look bad.
Gaia Ky seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Hughes thows a leg kick but Ky checks it
and Ky counters with an outside leg kick.
Ky is looking to clinch.
A telegraphed right hand from Hughes misses the target.
A looping hook to the body misses from Ky. Hughes does a little dance to reset his feet.
Hughes bobs and weaves and unloads with a good uppercut.
Hughes stooping low to avoid any incoming strikes and then lunges in with an uppercut come cross that lands flush.
Ky lands an overhand left. A wild punch that just about connected.
Ky scores with a hook to the body. Hughes takes a step back and tries to catch his breath.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Hughes shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Ky defends it nicely.
Hughes throws a looping overhand right but Ky ducks down to avoid it.

Gaia Ky has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Ratt Hughes.

Hughes throws a shot from downtown. Ky moves away and avoids it.

Hughes tries for a takedown but Ky manages to get underhooks.
Ky tries to throw a body punch but Hughes avoids it by throwing Ky back against the cage.

Ky wanted to stand there but Hughes had control of the position.

Ky sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Hughes's guard.

Ky connects with a solid leg kick.
Hughes throws a feint and then finishes with a kick to the body.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Ky cracks Hughes with a good shot that sees him stumbling back into the cage.
Ky throws a head kick but Hughes moves out of range.
Hughes throws a shot from downtown. Ky moves away and avoids it.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close third round but Ratt Hughes just about did enough to take it.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!

Hughes takes a nice looking leg kick right on the meat of his thigh there.
Hughes swats away the attempt to clinch by Ky.
Hughes throws a body punch but Ky moves out of range.
Ky takes a really solid shot there but just smiles back and shrugs his shoulders.

and Ky counters with a lovely shot to the body.
Ky tries to close the distance and clinch up but Hughes swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Ky throws a right hand that Hughes ducks under and follows up with a left that Hughes also avoids with ease.

Hughes throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.
Ky feints a jab promting Hughes to slip. Ky then demonstrates his capabilities by jabbing again. Hughes slips again and ducks right into an uppercut.
Hughes uses good head movement to avoid the hook from Ky.

Hughes avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Ky throws the left hand but Hughes avoids the punch easily.
Ky drops his hands and takes a jab to the jaw for his troubles.
Ky moves into range and throws a lovely three punch combination.
Ky ducks low and lands a nice hook to the body of his opponent.
Hughes changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Ky tries to avoid it but Hughes manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Ky to the ground. Ky escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.

The sound of bone on bone echoes around the arena as Ky checks a leg kick.
Hughes displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Ky throws out the jab.
Hughes takes a hook to the side of the head. I wonder if that's got his ears ringing.

Ky misses with a low kick as Hughes jumps back.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Hughes throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.

Ky drives through and clinches with Hughes against the cage.

Ky connects with a good right hand that stumbles Hughes. Hughes circles away out of range and recomposes himself.

Ratt Hughes seems to be getting the better of the standup.
Ky keeps his opponent at a distance with a nice jab.
Hughes's hands are dropping dangerously low here and Ky connects clean with a right hook that sends him down to one knee! Hughes scrambles back to his feet.
Hughes shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Ky pinned against the cage. Ky gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Gaia Ky has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Ratt Hughes.

Hughes looks to throw the jab but Ky is out of range.
Ky clobbers Hughes with an overhand right that has the crowd gasping. That made a horrendous noise.
Ky throws a leg kick but Hughes sees it coming and checks it nicely.
Hughes throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Ky's waist but Ky gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Hughes off to one side.

The fight moves into the clinch position.
Hughes goes for a takedown in the clinch but Ky prevents it.

Hughes blocks a punch to the side of the head.

Hughes lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.

This has been an exciting period of action!
Hughes throws a combination. Ky tries to block but a couple of punches get through.

Ky clinches up with Hughes and pushes him back against the cage.

Ky escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Ky throws an ugly left hook that misses
and Hughes counters with a right hand to the body.
Ky tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Hughes moves out of range of the strikes.
Ouch! a nice leg kick from Ky, right into the meat.
Hughes throws a body kick but he was well out of range there.
It really doesn't seem like the step up in weight is hurting Ky here at all. He's more than holding his own against the bigger man.

I would just about give that final round to Ratt Hughes.
