PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Massimo Caraglio (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Rafael Marcelinho (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Massimo Caraglio!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Rafael Marcelinho!
The judges for this bout are Nard Betker, Aafke Stam and Daniel Blasius.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
We've got one fighter who appears to only be looking to counter and the other not looking particularly aggressive either, so we could be in for a dull fight.
Marcelinho swats away the attempt to clinch by Caraglio.
Caraglio throws a jab when Marcelinho was well out of range.

Caraglio drives through and clinches with Marcelinho against the cage.
Marcelinho wants to take the fight to the mat but Caraglio manages to get underhooks and keep the fight in the clinch.
Marcelinho blocks an elbow strike.
Caraglio tries to land knees in the clinch but Marcelinho avoids the damage to the body.
Marcelinho is trying to break the clinch but Caraglio is controlling him.
Caraglio digs a right hand underneath Marcelinho's ribcage. Marcelinho let out a lung full of air as it connected.

Caraglio tries to land a knee to the head but misses.
Marcelinho tries for a takedown. No joy.
Marcelinho is looking for a takedown up against the cage. Caraglio gets underhooks though and prevents the takedown attempt.
Massimo Caraglio has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Rafael Marcelinho.

Caraglio definitely looks more muscular than last time we saw him fight.

Marcelinho's coach down at Nordic Top Team was telling us pre-fight that they have been working on Marcelinho's balance. Obviously they view that as a key factor in the outcome of this fight.

Caraglio makes some space for himself and lands an uppercut.
Caraglio gets double underhooks to prevent a takedown attempt from Marcelinho.
Caraglio keeps control of Marcelinho as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks.

Caraglio is looking to score with knees to the body. Maybe he'll change it up and go body then head. Marcelinho is defending well for now.

Caraglio tries to work over Marcelinho's body with a swooping hook but it only glances the target.

Caraglio lands a right hand that snaps the head of Marcelinho backwards.

Caraglio throws a knee to the head but misses.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Caraglio creates a bit of distance and throws an elbow that only just misses.
Marcelinho is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Caraglio pulls him back up using the underhooks.

Caraglio lands a short shot on the inside that snaps the head of Marcelinho backwards.
A bit of stalling here from Caraglio.
A frustrated look appears on Marcelinho's face as he tries to break the clinch.

Caraglio is pressed up against the cage. Marcelinho has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Caraglio down to the mat. Caraglio avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.

Marcelinho drops down for a takedown but doesn't get it.

Marcelinho changes levels and goes for a takedown here. Caraglio fights it off and pushes away nicely.

Caraglio closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Marcelinho quickly recovers to half guard.

Caraglio passes Marcelinho's right leg, so he's now in half guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Marcelinho manages to get to full guard.
Marcelinho manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Caraglio manages to get himself to full guard.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

Marcelinho drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Marcelinho jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

Marcelinho has gone for a leg lock! Caraglio slips out almost immediately though and dives into Marcelinho's guard.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Caraglio tries to free his leg and advance position but Marcelinho is retaining full guard.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! This is the final round!


Caraglio dips down and scores with a jab to the body.
Caraglio throws a body punch but Marcelinho moves out of range.
Caraglio throws a head kick that misses.

Caraglio scores with a nice takedown into half guard. Let's see what he's got on the ground.
Marcelinho makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Marcelinho.
Marcelinho pulls Caraglio in to control the position.

Marcelinho has managed to work for a loose triangle. I think Caraglio should be able to defend this one pretty easily though. Oh, Marcelinho has tightened it up now! Caraglio should have reacted faster there - he's in big trouble and yes, he's tapped out! This one is all over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:45 of round 3, we have a winner by way of Submission (Triangle). Rafael Marcelinho!
Rafael Marcelinho looked relieved post fight as he said the following; 'Shut up you pitiful beings am looking for the man who killed my brother now I will find him and I will destroy him in public so the whole world knows not to cross me.'.
