PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between El Chihuahua (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Cassius Penn (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Chihuahua comes to the cage accompanied by Cypress Hill - Rise Up. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 25 - 12 - 1, fighting out of Montreal, El Chihuahua!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 23 - 16 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Cassius Penn!
The judges for this bout are Alec Ball, Steve Smith and Ian Loll.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Penn ducks under a wild hook from Chihuahua.
Penn fakes a head punch and goes low to the body. Nicely done.
Penn lunges in with an uppercut that skims his opponent's chin.
Chihuahua throws a jab, cross combination which is slipped
and Penn cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.
Chihuahua dodges the punch combination from Penn.
A low kick from Chihuahua misses
enabling Penn to counter with a crisp jab.
Chihuahua throws a decent looking leg kick but it doesn't land clean.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Penn is defended easily by Chihuahua.

Penn avoids a punch combination nicely.
Chihuahua fakes with the hands and throws a leg kick but Penn is out of range.

Penn decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Chihuahua wants to get back to his feet.
Penn wants to take a breather but Chihuahua is having none of it.
Penn tries to pass the half guard into mount. Chihuahua knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.
Penn thows a huge punch but Chihuahua dodges it nicely.
Chihuahua might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

Chihuahua knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Penn on the ground.

Penn tries to pass the half guard into mount. Chihuahua knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.
Penn working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that.

Penn takes advantage of the dominant position to land a couple of big hammer fists.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Well, if Penn is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Cassius Penn dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Chihuahua closes the distance and takes a jab right on the nose as he does so.
Chihuahua swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Penn lands a jab, followed by a cross and another cross, as Chihuahua backs up against the cage.
Chihuahua swings wildly with a hook that is half blocked by Penn.
Chihuahua throws a right hand that Penn ducks under and follows up with a left that Penn also avoids with ease.
Chihuahua misses with a few strikes there.

A left and a right from Penn both land. Nice combination.
A combination from Chihuahua does no damage.
Penn lands a jab, followed by a cross and another cross, as Chihuahua backs up against the cage.
A punch lands to the side of Chihuahua 's head but he takes it in his stride.
Penn lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.
Penn takes a step towards his opponent and connects with a left hand, before circling away.
Chihuahua throws a body kick but he was well out of range there.

Penn throws a hook to the side of Chihuahua's head but Chihuahua sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.
Penn has used his reach advantage pretty well so far tonight.

Penn throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Chihuahua tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Penn is in Chihuahua's guard.

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Penn accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

Cassius Penn showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

Chihuahua has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Penn is proving hard to escape from.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Penn pushes a forearm under Chihuahua's chin to create some space. He's escaped his hips and pivoted quickly for an armbar! Can he extend the arm? Yes, Chihuahua is tapping out! Damn, that was fast!
