PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Alonzo Harris (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Slim Jim (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Jim has chosen Any as his entrance music. On his way into the cage it seems that Alonzo Harris has been attacked by a crazed fan! It looks like it might have been the just bleed guy! Luckily Alonzo Harris seems to be OK! I thought that lunatic was in prison!?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 14 - 10 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Alonzo Harris!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 12 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Slim Jim!
The judges for this bout are Ben Zyskovitsi, Marco Blurström and Anni Minnemäki.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Harris throws a big shot that misses.
Jim walks into a jab.
Harris fails to land the takedown.
No joy there for Harris, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Harris throws a hook but Jim avoids it easily.
Jim doesn't manage to clinch there - Harris circles away.
Harris throws a good cross that connects.
Jim throws a right and a left that both miss.
Harris turns his hip over beautifully as he lands a nice leg kick.
Harris throws a shot from downtown. Jim moves away and avoids it.
Jim tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Harris paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Harris loads up on a big right hand but Jim slips the punch.
Harris fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Jim avoids it really well and circles away.
Slim Jim is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Harris feints a straight left to the body, then turns around with a flashy move and hits Jims jaw with a dramatic spinning back fist!
Harris throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Jim.
Harris catches Jim with a nice straight right. He seems pissed - ooooh, it's on now! On like donkey kong!
Harris shoots in looking for a takedown but Jim manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Harris's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Alonzo Harris. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Jim uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Harris.
Harris scores with a punch to the gut of his opponent.

Jim takes a shot to the nose. Hopefully that hasn't broken it.
Harris lands with an overhand left.

Nice takedown defense from Jim. No joy for Harris on that attempt.
Jim throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Harris dives in and grabs Jim's left leg, looking for a takedown. Jim pushes down on Harris's head and hops out.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Jim moves his head to the side to avoid a jab but walks straight into a cross.
Jim looks to land a right hand but Harris moved out of range.
Jim tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Harris paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Harris throws a right and a left that both miss.
Harris misses with a low kick.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Jim bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes.
Harris is using his reach advantage well here, landing the more effective single shots from range.
Harris throws a hook to the side of Jim's head but Jim sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.
Jim is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
Jim is pinned up against the cage taking some big shots here. The referee is looking closely deciding whether he should stop the fight.
Harris is using his height advantage well here, landing a good percentage of his punches.
Good exchange - Harris coming out on top.
Harris throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Jim sees it coming and avoids it easily.

Harris works for the underhooks and manages to get a trip takedown into guard.
It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.
Jim wants to sweep here but Harris controlling him for the moment.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Harris throws an elbow that misses. Jim uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Harris's guard. Nice move by Jim!
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Harris is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jim throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Jim ducks under a wild hook from Harris.
Jim slips a jab from Harris.
Slim Jim is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Harris looks to score with a jab to the body but Jim is just out of range.
Jim throws a jab but it's blocked by Harris.
Jim changes levels and scores with a jab to the body.
A big left from Harris misses.
Jim ducks under a wild hook from Harris.
Harris bobs and weaves and throws out a fast jab that snaps Jim's head backwards.

and Jim counters with a nice jab to the body that keeps Harris thinking.
Jim tries to clinch up
and Harris counters with a nice uppercut.

Jim misses with a head kick.
Harris cracks Jim with an open hand slap.
Harris misses with an uppercut. Jim saw that one coming.
Harris fails to land with a series of punches.
Harris paws at his opponent with the jab and then lunges in with a straight, right on the button.
Harris connects nicely with a jab. Noted by the judges no doubt.
Harris lands with a nice body punch.
Jim takes a shot to the nose. Hopefully that hasn't broken it.
Jim swings and misses with a shot to the body
and Harris counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.
Jim throws a head kick that misses.

Harris lets the fists fly and connects with a left straight followed by a right hook.


Jim is rocked!
Jim takes a shot right to the liver - Bas would have been proud of that punch.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Harris feints and as Jim raises his hands in defense, Harris changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
Jim is still in real trouble! Can Harris finish him?
Jim tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Jim seems to have recovered his senses.
Jim utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
Harris wants to control from the top but Jim keeps moving.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Jim is looking to stand back up... there's a bit of a scramble and Harris dives into side control.
Harris will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
Harris throwing ground and pound but whilst doing so, he forgets to control position and Jim works his way back to half guard. Good composure under pressure.
Jim manages to get to full guard.

Harris looking to sit in guard and control but Jim gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. This is the final round!


Harris swings wildly with a hook that is half blocked by Jim.
Harris throws a series of punches but Jim moves out of range.
Jim tries to clinch there but Harris circles away.
Jim slips a straight right by Harris.
Jim wants to clinch
enabling Harris to counter with a crisp jab.
Harris changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Jim tries to avoid it but Harris manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Jim to the ground. Jim escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Harris looks to land a left hand but Jim moved out of range nicely.
Harris throws an ugly left hook that misses
and Jim makes him pay by landing a nice hook to the body before moving out of range.
Harris lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Jim circles away quickly and effectively.
Oooooooooooh, not good. A low kick from Harris lands where it shouldn't have, right in the... well, you know what he did? He kicked him in the penis. He's injured, injured bad. The referee sends both fighters to their corners and Jim has 5 minutes to recover. He's OK now though... a thumbs up from Jim and we're back underway with a touch of gloves.

Jim clinches up with Harris and pushes him back against the cage.
Jim swings wildly with an uppercut but Harris uses good head movement to avoid it.
Jim blocks a punch to the side of the head.
Jim gets underhooks to prevent Harris's takedown attempt.
Harris lands a right hand that snaps the head of Jim backwards.
Harris blocks a body shot from Jim.
Jim scores with an uppercut up the middle.
Jim is trying to maintain a safe position but Harris gets an underhook and turns Jim into the cage.
Jim stalling here - the referee won't stand for too much of that.
Harris is trying to push Jim away but Jim has him pressed against the cage, so he's going nowhere.

Harris's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.

Slim Jim has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

Jim fails in his attempt to clinch.
Harris shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Jim but Jim pushes him off and we're back to square one.

Harris thuds his right hand into Jim's forehead from close range. That could be painful for both fighters.
Jim ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Harris moves away.
Harris swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target.
Harris circles away from the clinch attempt
and Jim takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.
Harris throws a body kick, spinning off balance
and Jim counters with a thumping low kick.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Jim is pinned up against the cage taking some big shots here. The referee is looking closely deciding whether he should stop the fight.

Harris shoots in for a double leg but Jim sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Harris circles away from the clinch attempt.
Jim tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.

Harris closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
Alonzo Harris overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Harris is just content to waste time from the top position. Jim takes advantage of the situation and regains full guard.
Harris wants to control from the top but Jim keeps moving.

Harris is looking to advance position but Jim has hit a scissor sweep - now he's on top in mount!
Jim thowing strikes but they're hitting the gloves, not doing any damage.
Harris blocking the ground and pound.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Harris gets back to half guard.

Well I reckon that's a shut out for Harris, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
