PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Alex Trip (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Simao Silva (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). The crowd seem to be enjoying Silva's choice of entrance music: Type. We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Trip tries to score a power double leg takedown but Silva sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Trip somewhat.
Silva darts in trying to clinch

and Trip counters by moving into the clinch.

Trip ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Trip no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.
If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.
Silva throwing strikes from guard but Trip blocks nicely.
Trip keeping moving, preventing Silva from controlling successfully.
Trip wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now.

Silva tries to clinch there but Trip circles away.
Trip dives in and grabs Silva's left leg, looking for a takedown. Silva pushes down on Trip's head and hops out.

and Trip cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.

Trip throws a head kick that connects with a bit of head and a bit of hand.
Trip lands a glancing blow to the side of Silva's head.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Silva.
Silva shoots in looking for a takedown. Trip tries to sprawl out of it but Silva keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Trip manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Trip keeps the fight in the clinch, despite Silva's efforts to push away.
Silva is working hard here but doesn't seem to be able to control effectively, up against the cage.
Trip has Silva pressed against the cage, preventing Silva from circling away and getting back to striking at range.

Silva is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Trip defends well.

Silva shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Trip pinned against the cage. Trip gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.

Trip gets in close and instigates a clinch.

Silva is fighting off a takedown attempt but Trip is just too persistent for him and manages to trip Silva to the mat. Silva regains guard as soon as the fighters hit the mat.
Trip has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.
This has been an exciting period of action!
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Trip accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Trip might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Trip is stalling in the full guard.

Trip thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

and Trip counters with a leg kick.
Trip fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
Silva stuffs the takedown.
Trip shoots for a takedown but Silva saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.

Trip leaves Silva with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Silva misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Trip steps to the side to avoid the strikes from Silva.

Silva drops down looking for an ankle pick but Trip pulls his leg out and moves away.
Trip throws a feint and then finishes with a kick to the body.

Trip looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Silva is fending him off so far but Trip persists. Nope, Silva circles away and we're back to standing.

Trip scores with a nice one two combo and darts back out of range to avoid anything coming in the opposite direction.

and Trip counters with a shot to the ribs. That looked like it hurt.

Silva shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Trip pinned against the cage. Trip gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Silva throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Trip's waist but Trip gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Silva off to one side.
Trip avoids a kick to the body.
Trip throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.

Silva is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.

That was a close second round but I would say that Alex Trip will probably get the nod.
That's time! Trip's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. And we move into the final round!

Trip jumps guard but Silva stands there with Trip around his waist. Trip gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.

Silva throws a wild combination but nothing lands.
Silva tries for a takedown but Trip sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
Silva takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Trip shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Trip keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.

Trip is taking a breather. Silva says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.

Trip content to sit in half guard and control for a moment.
Trip thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Silva's head.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

Silva is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Trip wants to control but Silva is keeping him busy.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of Alex Trip.
Trip throws a head kick but Silva moves out of range.
Silva fails in his attempt to clinch.
Trip keeps the fight on the outside.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Silva shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Trip as he avoids it easily.

Simao Silva has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Alex Trip is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
The fight stays on the outside here - Silva looks like he's thinking about clinching though.

Well Trip has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
